Just follow the BLACK plastic till it turns WHITE . Look at yours PS where the water goes into the skimmer body and you will se only BLACK, that's the difference.

Go to page 10 of this thread. Clever has a clear picture of the elbow inside the skimmer. My ps160 still works great with all the modifications. You just have to tweak the water level setting once in a while to get your desired skimmate

I'm at almost 2 weeks running now and I just started to produce some skimmate. Clean with vinegar if you want it to break in before 2 weeks.

Hey fellas its been a while since i've updated the via aqua sk388 i modded. Here's the last two days of skimmate. A bit over 4 cups. It literally smells like sewage.

Unfortunately this is nothing the ps160 could do.

My unmodded Typhoon KILLS my modded PS75---sorry to rain on the parade fellas, but it does. I have given the PS75 a good chance to prove me wrong, but my Typhoon kicks the PS75's butt!!

Who cares about a typhoonie, this is not a D&D thread, move on. And take them looser cowboys with you.

The typhoon would not fit so it was not an option. I do have an old D&D hydramaster HOB that works OK, for a contra flow air stone PS that is. All though I do like the angled foam cup.

Well, if you want a sk388 you'll pry pay around 115 bux. I bought a pallet of the via aqua skimmers a while back and sold them all for 45 and 55 bux new. www.aquastealth.com is the only place i know of that sells them. Ebay sometimes has teh sk200 for around 60. But you'll have to mod it a ton to get it to skim a 225g tank. I have 205g volume in my system and it keeps my nitrates along with my fuge at under 5 at all times. If you run it stock or with very few mods the sk200 should handle a 65-75g no prob and the sk388 will handle a 100-125g stock.

just a quick chime in, the typhoon is twice the price of the ps75 and is rated for twice as much. Now we all know company ratings don't mean anything but even with company ratings one is greatly more significant than the other. And from the start we've all agreed the typhoon is probably a better choice, IF you have the extra money and space for a container. I know what my unmodded ps75 pulled daily, and I dare say that relatively speaking it was almost to par with the euroReef I have on my larger tank

The ps75 is good, the typhoon is better and the remora is still junk (maybe ok at $60). It just goes to show that more expensive does not necessarily mean better
On a totally different not I just cut the bottom off my aquaeuro classic 400 to fiddle (remove) the stupid Ts and man does that acrylic put off some NASTY chemicals when cut with a dremell. Yikes!

I didn't mean to put down the PS75 or anything, and certainly not to turn this into a "D&D thread". When I got the PS75, I already had the Typhoon, and got the PS75 mainly as inexpensive skimmer to tinker with, and the success you all were having inspired me. I wanted to put it to test against my Typhoon. I mesh modded my PS75, and I still have a hard time dialing it in, and getting good skimmate production. I got good skimmate from day one with my Typhoon. Again, maybe I am doing something wrong with my PS75 or something, so I am still tinkering with it. I have seen all of your pics, and read the successes, and hope I eventually experience the same results with mine. If not, it's ok, because I didn't invest much in it!

I don't understand why I got flamed for saying my Typhoon does a better job then my PS75, when someone else said their Via Aqua does a better job then thier PS160 also, and noone flamed him. Whatever.....flame on flamer! (not you chevegan)

Hey you have any more info on the Typhoon? Who makes it, how much, what mods you have.

Im interested in more information, as most of us are. I speak for everyone when i say, we are looking for a cheap skimmer that functions the same as expensive ones....RS, downdraft, ES, tunze....ect

I wasn't dissing you at all! I was talking about the jackhole that said "Who cares about a typhoonie, this is not a D&D thread, move on. And take them looser cowboys with you". That comment ticked me off a bit, he posted it merely because I gave my opinion, and it apparently wasn't to his liking. He doesn't like the fact that the Typhoon annihilates the PS75 in skimmate production......
