In the DT is 95 lbs of Fiji premium and nothing in the sump. Hmmmm.....I should get some rubble in the fuge.
Oh and......80lbs of sand in the DT which I currently need a goby to clean up for me. Next on the list ![]() |

![]() [IMG] ![]() ![]() ![]() I'd welcome any feedback and suggestions about the tank as well as my flow upgrade desires. I currently have a closed loop with an Ampmaster 3000 (3000 gph) on the 4' long right side of the tank, my return is an Iwaki RLT55 (950 gph) on a 1" Sea Swirl and I am running a Tunze 6025 for behind the rockwork. Michael: btw, my 20 gallon anenome tank is a pentagon, not a true corner, if that really matters. The back is flat however, so I don't think it qualifies. My 180 will have to suffice! Thanks for the great thread!

btb72, beyond the unique problems with aqua-scaping and flow which all corner aquarium owners have, I've also struggled to keep the corner panels algae free and have done some pretty substantial scratching of the acrylic in trying to find a good way to reach these areas. You've got a large corner as well. What dimensions are your tank and have you figured out a good way to clean the furthest corners?

i found the guys thread about Tubb's for sale, but it had like 3 pages on it and was kinda old. i said "hey ill look anyway". he was tryin to sell it for $70 a week before, then $66 and then a "weekend special" of $50. cha-ching for me, perfect timing. drove up and got them the next day.

If anybody is wondering, I believe the only way to get a sump under a 54 aga corner tank is to use a 15 gallon tall. Its a snug perfect fit.

Hello fellow corner owners,
Just thought I would join in here. I picked up a 54 RR tank, Stand, and sump for $150 last weekend. Couldn't pass up the deal ![]() Anyway what are people using for there return pumps on there Reef Ready setups? Mag 7 perhaps. Also how many people split the return line to add some directional flow? For additional powerheads do you think that 2 Koralia #1's would be too small? Sorry for all the questions, advice appreciated. |

Hey Reef-Ski! Welcome to the most painful and best tank you'll own.. (insert evil laugh here)
I have the big-brother of that tank, and currently have a K3 and a K4 for circ in the tank and do not find it enough, so I would guess that your plan of 2x Koralia 1's wouldn't cut it. The Koralia pumps are very nice in that they have a very dispersed flow when compared to other types of pumps. That said, I think in using those you have to go really big to get the circ flow you need/want in a reef-tank. I'd personally be more happy with two of the K4's than my current setup, or maybe if I added a third pump (another K3) would even be better... So long answer to one of your questions, but my advise is get 2xK2's at least and leave room to add a third pump if required. One comment on the MAG 7. These pumps run HOT. As in it can and likely will affect your water temp. Good in the colder months, and possibly bad in the summer if you think you might have heat problems. Wish I had an alternate for you but my knowledge of pumps is lacking. I'm sure the MAG pumps in general will work, I had one (think it was a 7) as my return... it now mixes and heats my 50gal salt-mix bucket (yes, it heats the 50gal just by running)

Good call on the Koralia's. I currently have a few of them and was hoping to use them in the new setup. I will look into an alternative, maybe a couple of Tunze 6025's or something.
Interesting on the Mag 7 with the heat issue. I will also watch for that as well. What do you guys think as far as lighting goes. I like the Sunpods as I currently am using one on my 30 gallon Finnex. Would a 150 watt sunpod work well? Should I go with a T-5 fixture like TEK, Thoughts? |

Hello & welcome Reef-Ski,
I to have a larger version of your tank, IMO, a mag7 will not be enough flow on your ret, specially if you are looking to split it. I use a mag 18 split in 3. I would recommend at least a mag 12. Next, I would use 2 K3/4 for supplemental flow. As far as lighting, I think that 150 MH is good, I would just try to add some supplemental lighting, some actinics, GL & keep us posted.

Hey guys, Im sorry I have no new pics to post today, I had a tank crash (only fish, no corals) so I was a lil too depressed to do my mod & take pics. Im down to my 2 clowns & my potters angel only. My tank will stay that way for a bit. Im going to focus on getting it stable & tending to my reef, I'll add more corals, but stay away from fish for about a month or alil more (hopefully).
