Thank you for the quick feeback. The tank is built of 3/4" acrylic. I think i will go with 3 for now as i like the look of some shadows in the tank. It makes it look like some ocean depth. But whats great about the Mitras is the expandability with out changing out whole fixtures/set ups.

I'm hoping so, and with the money being spent on it the wife says it better be.

I have 3 over 84x28 and have shadows, love it! Looks far mote realistic than some of plutonium space modulator DTs out there. The fish like it too

Hi guys
How many mitres do you think are needed for a tank measuring
48 (long), 24 (wide) and only 12 (high). These are inches.
The aquarium is a total fishless SPS system currently lit by
two 400 watt halides. I can live with shadows at each end. Heat will soon become an issue so want to move to LED. I can get the mitres in Ireland.
Thanks for any replies in advance.
Michael

2 is more then enough but you might have to run them very low percentage wise.

I can't wait to get mine!!!!!!

1 MIGHT do it... But you would definitely have dark edges on the long side of the tank. From what I understand, the Mitras can effectively light at least 2' x 3' so 2 might be the best option if you want full coverage and equivalent light to your 2 current 400w halides.

I would say start with one and see if you can live some shadow on the edges. I would say its a small minimal shadow on the side

I am going to be ordering a tank mount for my Mitras that I will be running on my Nano Cube (18x18x18 effectively) and I need to tell them how high off the tank I want the fixture. I was thinking 8 inches. Is that far enough off the water that I will get good coverage, but not an insane amount of light spill? I figured this is about the best place to ask

Thanks!

Don

***Updated***

Per the GHL specs it says

"allowing at least a minimum distance of 20 cm to the water surfac"

So that's about 7.8" or so. So 8" off the water is safe for the fixture. So the remaining question is, will the spread be sufficient for 18x18 at 8" off the water?

Thanks everyone in advance!

Don

I completely agree 1 is way more than I need, but what I am trying to confirm is that 8" off the water is sufficient. I am ordering a tank mount for the light so I won't be able to raise and lower the light. I need to order the mount for the correct height out of the gate.

If you are talking about the custom Mitras Rack from Modular LED.ca I ordered one as well. I ordered the 8" version. GHL recommends ~7.9" ATW (20cm) and the 8" fixture would place the bottom of the lamp roughly 8.75 inches above the water line in my tank. That's where I have them hanging now and it is working well.

That is the one. They are the only ones I have found that have anything like it. I just ordered it so hopefully it should be here next week.
