Lunchbucket or Fragn'stein can either one of you confirm the size gate valve needed on a CS5-2. I believe I read 1 1/4" awhile ago before this thread was split and just need to confirm.

5-2's are 1 1/4"

BUT if you have a 1" laying around or want to save some space just get a 1 1/4" insert bushing that reduces to 1" then 1" out from there

Lunchbucket isn't kidding. That gate valve contraption takes up a ton of space in the sump.

just buy a plastic bucket at K-mart for $10 and you wont have to worry fiddling with the skimmer

What's the plastic bucket for?

But, what does that have to do with not having to fiddle with the skimmer?

Codeman00 said that gate valve takes a lot of space. I suggested to get a bigger sump. what's not clear here?

thanks,
felix

Ok... that wasn't clear that that's what you were implying. Thank you for the clarification.

I used 1" on mine just because that's what I haad lying around, but trust me, it makes all the difference in the world in adjusting the skimmer. You can really fine tune the foam level.

i like the 1" gate valve MUCH BETTER. i ran my ES5-2 w/ a 1 1/4" and my 6-2+ (knock off) w/ a 1"....i like the 1" better...more room and less bulk

The only thing not clear is where Im suppose to put the bucket. I wish I had a dedicated plumbing and sump room like a lot of people..but all I have is the inside of my stand. In the sump it goes.

I don't think you will be disappointed! Here is mine after 2 1/2 days. One thing to note, I had to cut down my output tubes. 1 1/2" off the main and 1" off the slider (evened them up) Or do the gate valve mod Now is skims like mad!

ES5-3 riser pipe

ES5-3 riser pipe
I just got my ES5-3 Running in my sump.

I have a converted Amiracle - Sea Reef SR200 Wet/Dry-Dimension: 24"x14"x16"

I took all the balls out and dremeled out a opening for the filter sock...Works great!

I have the Euro in there and I was reading about the adjustable riser pipe in the owners manual, it says the Ideal water level for optimal skimmer performance is between six and eight inches.

Are they referring to the level from the bottom to the top of the riser or the level in the sump?

I have it set all the way down and it still seems a little too wet...
Should I up the water level in the sump or lower it...It is at half or a little above half of the sump...

Here is a pic

http://home.tampabay.rr.com/wiseass/

Any help is appreciated....

Thanks

BSimpson,
The six to eight inches is referring to the water level in the sump.

I need to place another order with Savko, because I forgot to order flex PVC so I'll add the 1" gate valve to the list.

I've seen quite a few people asking about the gate valve mod lately. Pictures can be found on page 44 of original thread.

edit- I'll just make it easier for everyone.
