OK, I can't read anymore. I tried finding my answer in here. I ordered a custom 60x36x24 aquarium, I was thinking 2 WP40's or 1 WP60 with a Jebao DC12000 return pump. This will be a SPS dominant tank with LPS and Softies. What should I do?

Personally, I went with 2 WP40s and a DC12000 on my 180g. I think you'd do well with that setup. You can get more random flow with 2 WP40s vs 1 WP60. Or you could even do 3 WP25s... I contemplated that route, too.

I agree with NeveSSL.
2 separate pumps gives you more options for placement and flow.

I went two 40s and dc12000 for my 210. Can't wait to see how they do compared to my current setup.

I had a pair of MP40s and replaced then with WP40s. The WP40s are quieter, seem to push more water, and the flow direction can be adjusted. They take up a little more space but not much. The controller on the MP40s is much more advanced. I personally am very happy with the WP40s and wouldn't go back to the vortechs given the huge price difference. I have a pair of WP60s on their way. |

315 gallon that is 72 x 36 x 28. Right now I have two wp40s in opposite corners and they give me a decent gyre flow. My plan is to put the 60s in the front corners and the 40s in the rear corners. Im going to trying running a pair of 40s and 60s for a few hours to get a circular flow going in one direction and then switch over to the other pumps to reverse the flow.

Have the wp40 and also tunze 6095's installed for more than a year. Tunze's are better all around but at the price, any issue with wp40 goes away, noise. You get what you pay for but over time, 3-4x is hard to justify. Great pump for the money.

maddmaxx You could do the classic tunze setup place each power head in the corner and face it at a angle that reaches the 22% mark and then the other doing the same thing, this creates a X in the flow.

I also agree. I have 1 wp40 on my 92 corner and it's slightly too much flow, even on what seems to be the lowest strength possible(W1, with adjustment dial all the way to the right). On pretty much any other setting the flow is so strong that something is significantly bothered by it. The corner shape of my tank means that it's more compact than your standard 90 so that could play into it.
I was going to get a wp-25 but was worried that it wouldn't be enough strength and since there wasn't a huge price difference, I ended up with the wp40. Don't get me wrong though, I'm extremely happy with the pump overall. From price/performance perspective I think it kills the mp40. |

I Had 2 wp-40s on my 92 corner and was great on about low to mid setting. Fish did get blown around if they swam in front of the stream. Now I have 3 on my 110 tall 48x18x31 and think I need one more they are all ran on full wave mode. I dont use sand so nothing gets blown around. |

Question, for a 40 gallon bare bottom SPS frag tank, do you think a WP40 dialed down would work, or am I better off with a single or double WP25? No sand storm concerns.
