By the looks of this thread it should be renamed 14gal BC

I have an 8 gallon BC and It drives me nuts with all the racket the fans make inside the hood. Has anyone replaced the cooling fans in the 8gal BC?

I haven't done it on a BC 8 but I have a couple of times on my BC 14. Its pretty easy, just remove the plastic cover off the bulbs, remove the bulbs, remove the reflector, remove and replace the fan (and wiring harness if the new fan needs one), replace the reflector, replace the bulbs, and replace the plastic cover. You can call Oceanic and they will probably send you some replacement fans for free, but you would be better off buying new fans from a computer store or from nanotuner.com. HTH.

This thread is in a lull! has anyone tried http://www.aquaticlife.com/skimmer/index.html

this little skimmer should fit in the first chamber right? cause it's 3"x3" and 10" tall. i guess its a little short but I am curious if anyone has done it. I use the crappy BCskimmer and have the mediabasket/fuge combo in my second chamber so i want to keep that clear. I may just stop using any skimmer at all since my bioload isnt that high. still, I want to breathe some life into this thread. I'll try and post some pictures later.

Also what happened to all the HQI BC owners? did they start their own thread?

I am debating on a sump for my BC14 with stock stand. Has anyone done this? Any suggestions?

I took the skimmer out yesterday! lol.

Gotta be tough with the smaller stand but anything is possible. Get some acrylic and get going! ;-)

I just barely added the coralife mini t5 light on the back of my bc29, and another thing I added was a nano sized filter sock instead of the blue/white polyfill.

Photobucket

The tank is cloudy cause I just moved it to another room and it's settling.

how much space do you have in the stand? do you mean to put in a refugium? If so I would keep the chambers for filtration and just install a refugium in the stand. it would be a project for sure, would be fun to to if you have the time. you dont have much room to install an overflow on the bc14 (even though there are nano-overflows) so I would rather get it drilled.

The best is to just DO IT. thats how I learn but i may be crazy

I love the sock there...I may have to give that a shot...I use the blue/white foam but I still get small particles through...

I do want a refugium...I have 12 x 12 uner the stand and am thinking of going about 16" high...

I was also thinking to keep my chemi pure and purigen in chamber 2 and drilling into the back of chamber 3...I think the back of the chamber is acrylic...Can anyone confirm or deny this?

My other option I have been thinking of is just getting a larger stand...maybe or a bio 29? and the I can get a more standard fuge...

12x12 should be just fine, just don't do what i do and make the sump the EXACT same size as the space in the stand or you'll never get it past the cabinet door. :-(

the entire back of the tank is glass, it's just painted black... and i am pretty sure its not tempered... but i would confirm first with oceanic or someone that's done it. only the divider between the DT and the back chambers is plastic (along with the chamber dividers of course)

of course you can do the 29G stand but then you might as well just make your own stand and save some $ plus make it how you like. plus I think a bigger stand will dwarf your bc14 and then you'll just want a bigger tank.

btw The filter sock got gunked up fast and i had to clean it cause i stirred everything up BUT it catches WAY more than the poly-fill, and its reusable. check this out: http://marshreef.com/modules.php?nam...wtopic&t=50123

Well after reading for a while I thought it was time to post my tank photo of my 29 Bio. The center compartment has been converted to a Fuge with a JBJ nano glow LED. Main lighting is a 150 watt MH fixture with a mix of SPS and Zoas. Skimming is done with an internal Tunez Nano Doc. 1/2 sand bed and 30 pounds live rock.

My Tunez is in yank. On the left nest to the return. The 3rd chamber only holds the return. The first is also empty. The center holds all the Fuge and rock.

i contacted nanotuners yesterday to ask if their t5 retrofit barebones kit would fit the bc and they said it would fit, since the fixture is 18" long and the bulbs are 16.5 so I would think they would fit perfectly snug inside the hood. now i just have to decide if I pay the $130 for 3 t5s inside the hood, or up the ante to $300 for the 3.6 led kit... stupid technology makes things more expensive!

Anyone else have problems with really dull moon lights on their tank? Ive had mine up and running for three years an now my moonlights won't even make it to the bottom of the tank. I've tried emailing and calling oceanic but they apparently don't like to return messages. Anyone else had this and hoe do you remedy that?

i have been meaning to ask nanotuners if their drop in led heatsinks + led's could be a straight swap for the factory ones.. but yes mine suck too. I want leds... again... but t5 is cheaper, lol.

Yeah, I have the same problem. They are on (can see them with the hood open) but you can't see them in the water. I''d be interested in knowing what is causing that. When it was new the moon lights showed up nicely. Oh well.

my center LED went out about 2 months ago, and the two remaining ones are DIM. I know I could just throw an r2 led module in there but meh.
