I have some of these on the glass lately, they look like this picture of spirorbis tube worms. Assuming they're harmless. Also have some small tube worms on the rocks that are a white/pale tan with a hint of red at the tip, maybe 1/4" long and 1/16" or less wide. The same tube worms?

Also have some sort of critters that aren't tube worms in my rocks. They are tiny white objects, with what look like thin hairs or tentacles, on stalks. Kind of flower looking items, do not look like anemones of any kind. I have a feeling they're some sort of jellyfish-like creatures. They don't contract when fish go near and just seem to float with the current. No pics since my digital camera broke and my daughter's camera won't do macro shots.

These kind of sound like Hydroids. The link below has some pictures for comparison, but at the top of the page you'll see some other options as well. Just as an example, Hydrozoan ID 1, Hydrozoan ID 2 etc.

Hello,

Can someone confirm if this is green hair algae? My turbo snails are not touching the stuff.

Cheers :-)

Thanks, cloak. That's what I figured they were. They're all pretty small and don't seem to bother anything so I guess they can stay until they do.

Hi,
Wondering what kind of crab this is. There are two and they came in on the black sun coral I just got. I couldnt get them off the coral because of the creep factor so they are in my tank. They have never left the coral. I know the coral looks pathetic but with feeding in pretty sure. It'll make a comeback.

That is some kind of green algae. Your turbos may not go for it if it is going sexual or the substrate is to sharp

Hi, i read the startingpost stating all crabs are bad and should be removed. But on a scale of 1-10 how bad is the crab on the picture? 1 being pretty harmless, 10 being a sure way to destroy my tank.

Seems to be an Actaeodes tomentosus - primarily an algae eater but if it can get easy meaty food it won't ignore it. One would need better pictures to be sure, but provided it is one, I'd give it a 3-4, so fairly safe to leave in the tank.

Hi alexander,

Thanks for your quick response. I looked up some pictures and I'm 99% sure this is the same crab. I will see if I can get a better picture from the one in my tank but he really likes dark places

I have nothing definitive, but if the pic color is accurate, I'd be more concerned with a red asterina than the mostly white ones.
Many people don't even trust the white ones.

Thanks. It was a white one but I don't want to take a chance. It's gone, just in case.

Pix & ID: Critters that come in your rocks: the good and the bad.

Brittle star? Try putting a small piece of raw shrimp in front with tongs and see if it comes out
