Friend or foe?
Found a couple of these hanging out in my sump. Can you confirm if I should keep them or discard them. They move awefully fast for a starfish.

So this little guy came creepin out of one of my (his?) rocks last night. He's quite mobile. Looking around I think it's an Urchin? has anyone had any experience with a hitchhiker as such?
I am astonished at all the hitchhikers I've been running across lately. This is my first tank and I am loving it. One concern I have is that I dont want anybody munchin on him when I add my cleanup crew.... will a crab or shrimp harass him? Thanks everyone in advance |

Almost nothing messes with urchins. I wouldn't worry about his safety.

Hey there - came home late last night and wanted to check on a RBT that I had put earlier in the days, so turned on just the blues and saw this beast!
Here's a full movie of it moving around. https://www.dropbox.com/s/3y123f9ve8...26.57.mov?dl=0 Sorry I didn't cut the blues and move to white - wasn't thinking while I was filming. Any ideas? |

Ficopomatus enigmaticus (Australian Tubeworm) Good or bad?
Hello! This is my first post. My husband and I are about a month into getting our 125 gallon aquarium going. Right now, it's mostly rock and two tangs. Last night, I took a flashlight to look for hitchhikers. One little cutie that I found is apparently an Australian Tubeworm. In the wild, this is an "invasive" species, but I haven't read anything bad about it in terms of aquariums. Here's a (bad) photo. Should we leave it alone or take it out? Thoughts? Thanks!

Wow. That's really cool! I'm just a beginner, so I find this especially interesting. Thanks.

Wow. I can't believe that I'm one day into this hobby and can answer your question (I think). I just this morning researched one of these in our tank. I THINK it is a Ficopomatus enigmaticus (Australian Tubeworm). I started a thread this morning to ask if we should remove it or not, because many sites called it harmless, but I guess it's invasive in the wild. Let me know if you find out otherwise...

Any idea what this is? Came on the live rock I got last night. Slightly deeper color than in the pictures.

First I think it's a clear sponge. Body shape more irregular than tunicates usually are.
2nd is vermetid snail. Some people (me) find annoying, but not a big deal. The others I agree. |

This guy came in on my rock, though it wasn't visible at first. It's starting to grow now, but still pretty small. I get the impression it's a finger leather but I can't be sure:
(I have to work on getting a good close-up). I'd mentioned finding "purple flower-like" things on one of my rocks, now it's growing all over the rock. I hope someone can see it and help me ID. Are they a coral? If so, they look like they're going to try to take over.

First thing is so small in that pic it could be anything.
Second, those look like tiny feather duster worms. If so, they'll retract into the rock when threatened. |
