I have my return pump and power heads connected to a wavemaker. I just press the feed button and those are turned off for 30 minutes so the food doesn't go into the overflow. The nice thing is it is connected to a timer so in case I forget it automatically kicks back on in 30 minutes.

When feeding fish I turn off all pumps. When feeding corals I leave everything on except the skimmer which I turn off for a couple of hours.
