I love the mag-float mount! Great idea. I'm gonna use it for my next MJ.

The first pics are of my original mods, without proper tools. The 2 working ones in the pictures are 3 inches and 2 inches. I like the 2 inch ones better. The last pic with the extra crossbar, was to stabilize the center from vibrating and making noise.

dc_909 -

Great pics and I love the mag float magnetic holder. The pump you used in these doesn't look like MaxiJet. Which pump did you use to make these mods?

I have 6 running in my 125 BB. Fish seem to love it and no debris stays still to rot in there.

You have 6 modded 1200's in a 125? Must look like a hurricane in your tank

I am thinking about putting 4 modded in my 180, not sure yet. I think i will start with 2 and see if i like the flow

Thanks VAdiver for the offer.

I'm actually in Virginia Beach and we have several local clubs that are pretty active. I'm sure if I really need help that they would help me out. If you are ever down this way pm me, we have some great local LFS's and maybe you could make a meeting?

draleigh,

I have 4 modded ones in my 80. You will need more than four in your 180 for sure.

dpearly88,

Yeah mine clicks when it spins backwards. You can build a built in stopper in your mod to make it automatically correct itself. I don't think there is a way to make it spin right every time.

You must not be using mjmods kit because the ONE I have in my 125 is kicking a**.

I am going to add anther on the other side but will have to put them on a wavemaker. If I had two going I would end up with a tsunami in my den.

They are mjmods, but I like lots of flow. Most people do not have enough flow in their tanks.

I have 5 in my 125 .. and I want to add one more. I think 6 is perfect for a 125, 150, or 180 SPS tank.

Yeah something is probably uneven; either your prop or maybe when you centered the shaft it wasn't straight enough.

Maybe the PH isn't strong enough to spin the prop properly, if so, you can try shaving the prop down.

It should. Flow greatly inhibits the growth of cyano.

I have followed the MJ mod from the very beginning, but this is the first I learned the kit costs $50 to achieve a 1200gph flow.

How can this be a good deal when a Tunze 6025 at a cost of $62 can be modded in 5 minutes to produce 1200gph drawing only 7W and still enjoy the two year warranty except the modded cap?

Please don't tell me your MJ mod looks nicer.

Make you own.

Test cap=$.25
ABS pipe=$10 for like 10ft
prop=$1.75
carbon fiber rod=$6
rigid airline=$1
Superglue=$2

Thats like $20 and if you can find shorter lengths of the pipe you can save some money. Superglue and airline tubing is stuff most aquarist already have.

I built two of them today from scratch....the only item I ordered for the project were the Dumas 3006 props.......the rest came from either Lowe's or the hobby shop.

Mine have both carbon axles and shafts connecting the magnet to the prop.....

the most difficult part I had was getting the props to stick to the carbon tube......superglue gel worked wonders!

Well then with the Hydor pumps out for around $30 to $45 a piece and a mod available, let's just say the MJmod days are over. It was good when it lasted though, I had tried myself but when you can mod a Tunze or Hydor for about the same cost and less labor, with ten times better the appearance and mounting, why bother?

For me at least, it was because I already had the powerheads. If you can do a mod with a better pump, go for it, but if you already have one to mod then do it.

I'm doing the mod just so I can re-use older equipment. I ordered a kit so that I'd have a better idea on how to DIY the other 3 MJ's.

Nice idea on using the magfloats. do you clean your glass with them attached and running? LOL.
