Did you do 2 days in a row with no light? I believe the thread said they were doing 72 straight hours with zero light. I really have no idea what eats that stuff, but either way it seems like you have a nitrate and/or phosphate problem, though you said you eliminated phosphates already. How is your skimming? Might want to look into a coil denitrator if you are good at DIY. IMO they are too expensive for what they are to purchase outright.

This looks like Blue-Green algea a.k.a. Cyano bacteria. You can really tell in your second picture. The air bubbles underneath and all over the surface are a give-away. Does it blow off the rock easily with a baster, but then grow right back? There isn't much critter-wise that eats it beside queen conch/fighting conch and maybe margarita snails. Increase flow and get nutrients down. Wait. When I had it, it just went away on it's own.

I agree... I don't think it is algae. I think it is bacteria like cyano. Phosphate reactor and syphon it.

I had the same problem the first year in a 75 gallon tank. I just about sh-t canned the whole hobby. I tried lots of water chages and al sorts of stuff. Then I started using phospure, Increased my circulation in the tank, added 15 tubo snails, and scrubbed as much off my rock with an old tooth brush and netted as much as i could. It was gone in about a week or two. I then started dosing to keep calcium and alkalinity up, and the coraline algae started to grow. I still have the turbo's and never stopped using phospure. The only algae in the tank now is what i put on a clip to feed my tang and snails. Good Luck I now its frustrating. Just so you know. Chemi-Clean and most red algae removers are nothing more than maracyn antibiotic. ( This will kill your good bacteria along with red slime algae) If you use it, do a water change and add Stability or some other bacteria back to the tank . Its been my experiance that chemi-clean is a temporary fix. Try to get your nutrient levels down. Turbo's also eat red slime.
