Separate systems. You can also tear them down when not in use.

Separate! Otherwise, whatever parasites/disease/etc you have int he QT will go right into the display.

Not to hijack the thread but do people generally QT everything (coral, inverts, LR, etc) or just fish???

If you are going to qt, you might as well qt everything or it is pointless IMO. Most people seem to only qt fish, but anything can bring parasite or disease into your tank, including corals and rock.

Thanks for the tank offer Kat but I found an old 10 gallon I had tucked under my steps. I might try and catch it and toss it in. I put my last Purple firefish in QT and it didn't do any good. That particular parasite was very strong and I tried manually removing it with tweezers, freshwater dips, and meds but nothing worked.
