Today is a big day for this build. I am just about to get all the wood for my stand and canopy. Also, I think my plumbing is ready to be glued. This is awsome because if all goes well water should be flowing soon!
Not too much to report today. I put some gutter gard on my overflow ![]() I also moved the powerhead onto the overflow. I really like that spot for because it dosn't get in the way of canopy and think it just looks better. I hope it dosn't interfere too much with the overflow water. ![]() I also put some silicone on my mag 7 to prevent vibrations. ![]() looks goofy but I think it is gong to work great. My dog is little, but he is a daddy. Here is Jose with his litter last spring. ![]() Check back soon! Water will be flowing!

Things are rolling now. The stand and canopy are comming together now and I think they are looking pretty good!
![]() This is just a test with the front pannel on. I put my girlfriend to work and got her to do the staining. ![]() The oak plywood pannels are held on with magnets. It is working really well! I have only two magnets on the front part right now and afew more will need to be added so the pannel dosn't come off by accident. ![]()

Looks great. Your sump is setup almost identical to mine. I also have a Mag pump for my return, and I put some closed cell foam underneath it and now it is silent. It's the stuff you put under Pergo type floors.
Your plumbing setup should work very nice. Dan

Kar- Thanks for following along! The tank should be up and running this week.
Stereo- Thanks for checking out the system. I put my pump back in my sump and noticed that the silicone almost acts as suspension. If it dosn't work I will be trying out that foam though!

Yeeeeaaa! plumbing is done!
![]() I learned a valuable lesson. Don't cut a hole in the canopy for the plumbing before you glue the plumbing. It made it really hard to get the pipes in the right spot. One thing I am really excited about is I don't have to wait 7 days for some plastic paint to cure. I found a part that allowed me to screw my loc-line adapter into my pvc, and keep the pvc above water. So, no white pvc in the display. I drilled two anti-siphon holes right into the loc-line. ![]() ![]() My canopy is comming together nicely ![]() ![]() ![]() The stain is on!

ha ha, thanks guys. Water should be flowing tomorrow. I will be doing a fresh water test to check for leaks etc.
Does anyone know how long pvc glue takes to cure. I was going to give it 24hrs, does that sound right?

24 hours is more than enough for most PVC glue.
Just a thought: put a light coat of oil on your hinges to prevent the salt\moisture from corroding them. I used a furniture polish that is a wax\oil mixture.

Water is flowing!
Today is a good day! I got the water flowing in my tank!
![]() When I got the water running several issues came up. I noticed that water seems to become lower in the pump section first. Is this where evaporated water will lower the water level? If so this could be a problem because the section is not very big. ![]() I also noticed a leak in one of my pvc glues. Not a big deal though, I am just going to replace a section of the plumbing and do a better job. The canopy and cover are on, and boy do they look sharp! ![]() So, does anyone know which section of my sump will become lower when water evaporates?

Yeah, definately the return pump section. I had a hard time with this concept too when I first built my sump, but the water in the other sections has to reach the top of the baffles to overflow into the next section, so the water level in those sections will always be the same--the height of the baffles. It's the same principle as why the water level in the display tank is always the same--because of the height of the overflow. Hope this helps.

Maybe eliminating the elbo at the end of the drain pipe will eliminate the girgle.Allowing more water to flow into the return section.
The section where the return pump is where you mark the sump for water level.

Thanks guys! Before I change the size of the return section I am going to see how much water evaporates when the lights and fans are on.
Blktang - Removing that elbow at the end of my drain pipe might be a good idea. I think I am going to run it with salt water first and see how it goes.

Put a float switch in the return section for auto top off.
Then all you will need is to keep a resoivor filled. Salintiy will stay very stable. David |

Thanks David! I was freaking out at fist about how small I made the return section. After some calculation I decided that the return section cannot be left alone. The best option I found was to go with an auto top off system.
http://www.bigalsonline.ca/BigAlsCA/...loiifloatvalve As I understand it the float will use a siphon to get water from a resoivor when the water level becomes low. Thanks again david for the suggestion.

Let there be light!!!
I just finished installing my retro fit light kit and this thing is bright!
![]() Metal halides and actintics This next one is just the metal halides. It is amazing how much brighter they are in person. ![]() The dinning area is bright! ![]() Here is a shot of the canopy with when I finished putting everything in. I am running two 250 watt metal halides with 10k xm bulbs. Also there is 2 110w vho actinics. The build is comming along, but I am not gong at a super fast pace becuase I am wating for a float valve to come in so I can make an auto top off system. ![]() I am really suprised how nicely everything came together! I think making a plan on google sketch up really made the final product come together nicely. Do they look similar? ![]()

Thanks guys!
I wasn't sure wether both fans should blow air in or I should have one blowing in and one blowing out. I went with the second senario. What do others usually do?
