One of my 3500s is external in a closed loop and works fine, no issues. Much better than the Quiet One 4000 it replaced after it burned up and electrified my reef system! Caused my 1/4 HP chiller to run non stop for two days before I discovered the problem.

I have a couple of issues, the size, they are too big for what they offer and are due for a redesign, Externally they have been noisy for me.

I use an eheim compact plus 5000 as my return it is amazing due its size, low noise and innovative impellor, However I dont think they have them in the US yet.

I run 2 6500, one submerged and the other external. No problems in a year.
