As much time as I spend on a step stool testing the structural integrity of my aquarium I wouldn't risk it.

Your cleaning or hospital bill will be much higher than $700.

I have 3 chips JUST like that. They are fine. No problem. No leaks, no issues at all.

Put water in it. Stop sweating it and don't let all the "swimming pool" answers scare you.

i think that it will be fine because the chip is on the outer corner and doesnt protrude into the silicone or anything orgtizz has a good suggestion fill it up in a safe place with the hose out side and let it be for awhile and see if its alright

What do you constantly look at?? Make sure its always level??

I was saying that I can't keep my hands out of the aquarium. Reaching the bottom of my tank puts me in a precarious position

Don't underestimate the stresses you aquarium will face: aquascaping, fish removal, maintenance, children, etc.

It's not fear mongering dude. That 180 is going to be holding back lots of pressure. It's not like is a 20 gallon tank. To me it's asking for it. Hope no lil kids are in front of it when it goes.

9supratt4: hey brother - I too just recently aquired a 58 gallon tank and did not realize it had a nice chip in the side but not near the silicon. They guy I got if from stated he had it up a year so far with no problems. I am in the same predicament that you are in; deciding if I should do it or not. I was thinking of leveling it and filling it outside to test it.

I had a much larger chip than that near the bottom corner of my 150g for 15 years. I purchased the aquarium as a "scratch and dent" at my LFS for $50. The chip wasn't touching the actual silicone joint so I figured it wouldn't make a difference its ability to hold water. I was right as it never leaked a drop. I gave the aquarium to my sister about seven years ago and it still hasn't failed. It looks like your chip doesn't touch the silicone joint, so I'm pretty sure you'll be fine.
