Judging from the pics it does look to be mounted externally. It also looks like a major PITA to do.
Great vid Spike. I like the way you integrated it into your overflow/rockwork. Very cool. |

Polario Pump-- Currently Not Available for External Use
I contacted SEIO/TAAM and they have confirmed with me that the current version of the POLARIO pumps cannot be mounted externally in a closed-loop. The only thing close would be mounting it in the overflow box as the video in the thread shows. Future version may have this option to mount externally.
So you must use intank for now... |

Has everyone found these to be pretty loud compared to Vortech, Tunze, etc. ?

One thing I've noticed is that the controller is really loud. It sounds like there is some mechanical timer in there and every once in a while it starts grinding really loud. I haven't had the balls to take it apart and see what the heck is going on.

Found this on youtube pretty good. Also I set my up in an overflow box and adapted to 2" BH. My has worked well since i got it, I really like that there is only one moving part. We also set it up on a friends tank a 180 bow front. He was able to remove all other flow pumps 4 pumps from 800 to 1500 gph. Per Taam the models 22 and 15 are not yet intended to be used for closed loop yet. I also figured out speed control it seems to reset once turned off however you can only reduce flow 30% or so. No matter mine is on full of course every 10-15 minutes. I talked to somebody at Taam and they confirmed there will be more on the market in two weeks |

I am thinking of getting a Polario for use in the 120 Oceanic Tech I am setting up. I would like to mount it inside the tank but on top of the center overflow. Can someone post the dimensions of the magnet used to hold the pump. Specifically the piece that would normally sit outside the tank. I would like to see if the magnet can fit inside the overflow between the two tubes that go to the sump on the Tech 120. Then the pump would be centered in the middle of the display.
Also any updates on how you like the pump after running it for a few months. Thanks in advance. Dave

The strength of the magnets sound scary...is it dangerous enough to cause concern with cracking the glass? The reason I ask is because I don't have much room behind the tank and would literally have to press one mag from out the tank while slowly sliding the other piece inside the tank. Pray I don't do any damage to my finger like the case when I was playing with the MJ mod.

Hi All,
I purchased the Polario. Nice flow but it sounds like an electric drill when you drive a screw into wood and clunks when it changes direction. The high pitched whine carries much further than the other equipment in my setup including a little giant 4MD that I used to think was loud. I sent the the first unit back because after speaking with the manufacturer I thought it must have been defective. I received the replacement unit and it sounded the same. I have sent both units back now. Steve |

I received my 22ML earlier in the week. I tested it earlier in the week and placed it today. I have a 180 AGA and placed it in the middle of the tank about 8+ inches below the surface. I tried to configure the rockwork so that it was less visible and had a nice semi-open area on each side.
So far: The pros: 1) the wide range of flow - it hits a very large area from the back wall to some of the front areas. I also noticed this when testing it. 2) amount of flow - seems consistent with spec, when fully turned on in testing I almost had trouble holding it. 3) the switching side feature is very interesting and provides random movement each way. It seems this pump was made to be in the middle of the tank and provide back and forth flow. One would hope this design idea means it will last this way for a while. 4) the magnet is very secure. Cons: 1) it is lightweight, which makes you question the durability. 2) the controller is very basic - it would seem many more options could be included. The failure to remember your settings is also annoying. 3) Noise - It has a high pitch sound and switching sound that is detectable and my tank is by no means silent. I don't notice it unless I'm right in front of the tank so I'm not overly concerned with it it at this point. If I had a silent tank or needed a quiet setup I would not recommend this product. Overall so far I am pleased with the product and the performance for the price. I paid less than half a typical used tunze setup so I am not expecting that level of quality. I'll weigh in a little more after a longer observation period. |

I'm also really impressed with the amount of water movement. I'm curious what time interval others are running or have found to be most successful for corals? I've had mine at 30 seconds most of the time. But am wondering if longer wouldn't increase the life of the pump due to less switching.

not sure if the time that the unit switchs back and forth would make that much of a difference. I know with other wavemakers it is the clutch in the impeller that goes.
But I am running every 15 minutes when I first got the unit ran at every 15 seconds. Corals are the same either way just thought gives more time to rest on one side. |

I ordered the 22ML this morning from MD and luckily before the sale ended today. This will replace 2 Koralia K4s. Any suggestion as for settings in a 180g FOWLR tank?

Finally got around to installing the 22ML today. So far I took out 2 powerheads and 1 AC 110 which is a total of 45W. As for flow I still have a Koralia 4, magnum 8, Tunze 6000 and a Fluval FX5.
Basically the increase in energy was only 5W but the temp went up 1 degree. I'm hoping to be able to take out the K4 but I'll wait a bit just to be sure I've enough flow. Right now the setting is max at 5 minutes. This thing is big as everyone have said and yes that's a very powerful magnet it came. |

Update
When I checked this morning I noticed the temp dropped one degree and PH was down and looked over the controller it was off. I'm not sure yet if I've a malfunction controller. After wiggling the controller couple of times I have it set to max and 2 minutes and seem to be running fine. I'm not going to touch the controller till tonight to see if it goes off again. Without going back to read the whole thread is anyone having the same problem?
So far the noise is not bad I can hear the controller fan and I hear when the pump switch direction. However, if I've an open top I probably notice it more. We are only in April and the the chiller is already kicking in. |
