This is mine, but it looks a little different now that I added a .5" sand bed and more corals. It's an old pic. It has gotten too crowded since breaking my frag tank down, but this will give u an idea of what the aquascape looks like. They are 8 rocks total in the tank. |

Not sure if you would call this minimalist or not..? But it does have a lot of room considering it's in pillars. All closed loop plumbing is ran/hidden in the rocks. You can click on my red house for a build thread to see the rest. Feel free to leave comments/questions.

Tangers - your rank is sweet - did you use anything to hold the rocks, other than gravity?

yeah, I had to zip tie and epoxy some of them. only on the middle column though, that one is a lot higher and would always keep falling in spots. thanks for the comment.

It totally counts...it is after all minimalist. Do you have any plans for it?
Thanks for sharing!

Sorry for taking the thread off path but what do you all use for epoxy to hold the rocks together?
Heard there was something you could use at the Home Depot? BEATIFUL tanks everyone keep them coming!

Keeping things minimal and open requires lots of tough trimming. Mine is a room divider, here is both sides.

I had the privilege to see aztbs's tank in person last week, all I can say is WOW WOW WOW. Her use of rock work in person is simply stunning. She used branching tonga in ways I never thought of. Just one of those tanks you just need to see in person.
I am also proud to say I now have a bunch of frags of those stellar SPS colonies she has pictured! WOOT! Super good person to deal with.

quite the change!
Personally, I find half the fun is watching the tanks grow in and the minimal scaping really allows for this.

Thank you everyone! I am very proud of this tank.
luv951 - There are several things that make it trouble. First is the temptation to fill in all of the open spaces with more varieties of beautiful corals. But mostly, I have had to sell/give away a lot of large corals because they simply grow too fast. My gold crown leather was easily 14 inches across before it finally moved to a new home. I frequently take a frag from my pink birdsnest and get rid of the colony to keep the spaces available and regrow the colony. The whole structure is very delicate. I broke a 15" branch from my green slimer when trying to cut it back. I don't really want to prune so much, but I really am trying to keep some open water. Ratpack - I have threads all over the place and I am working on consolidating them in to a build thread because recently I have been asked a lot! |
