dont worry about the minor stuff, before you know it the whole tank may be covered in coraline algea. No need to fix something that is not broken. before you go spending money on equipment, think about what you are trying to get your of you tank then use your dollars wisely to acomplish that goal. What type of lights do you have and what corals do you wish to keep? Do you have a good skimmer? In the future you may want to get rid of those bio-balls looks like a nitrate factory waiting to happen.

I had planned on messing with the back but I do agree that hopefully in time it will be covered in algae anyways. Once I get all the live stuff in there I'm hoping I won't notice it as much. I'm really particular on how I want stuff to look so maybe I'm just being TOO anal about it. Thanks for all the input

I have the bioballs in there just to help build up the bacteria quicker and then I'm going to take them out and put in some cheato (sp?) with a PC light.

Skimmer is also taking it's sweet time getting here in the mail. (MSX 200)

The lights I have now are cheap because I'm not looking for anything too hardcore. I'm going to start out with a small few (mixture) of low light soft corals and zoas. After a good while, I'll spend the big $$$ and undertake better lighting and corals. I really don't want to get over overwhelmed with all this at hate it.

It is some sort of polyp growing? It gets a litte bigger everyday. When it's big enough to actually appear on camera - you guys will have to ID it for me.

Here are a few pictures of my cheap-o LED moonlight system.

I have hundreds of those growing in my tank!
Tank looks nice.
About the backing, just buy the black backing with the glue, as said, coralline will take over and the contrast looks nice.
I want to see more pics of you moonlights, and what camera are you using?

Thanks. I think I'll leave my blue backing up and just wait for the coralline - it will probably annoy me until then. I will have to get some more pics of the moonlights at night. The lady says those are her favorite. I cleaned up the wires a little bit. So they look like this...

I'll get some at night when the lights are out and post later.

The camera is an Olympus FE-230. The reason I bought it was it has a custom made housing (and ~underwater mode~ on the camera) for underwater pictures so I could take it scuba diving with me. VERY nice housing for the $200. Camera was $200-300'ish. Takes great pictures unless it's at night - those pictures are so/so at best.

Here is one with the moonlights on. It really doesn't do it justice at all but oh well.

haha, they really don't look that bright. If I put the flash on it washes out the blue. They look like standard moonlights.. haha.. I'd probably be better off taking a video of it and posting that. The have the "wave" effect with the water and everything. Maybe I'll try and do a video of it sometime instead.

what sort of drain do you have pulling water from the main tank?

I have two 1" drains. I'm working on building a standpipe today. $11 isn't bad for all the parts for both.

If it is cyano then my tank is getting hammered with cyano here in week 4...when I shut the pumps down and restart it looks like brown snow floating around the tank...Ill be glad when its over.

are you still running a lighting cycle? if so - stopping it should slow the growth. cyno is photosythetic

Nice job so far,
I would suggest getting a Phospate/carbon reactor from bulk reef supply... just so you can run both off of one pump. I was thinking about getting one for myself when I upgrade. I have no more room in my sump.

I made two standpipes to stop the waterfall. It took all of 30 seconds to put it together and drop it it.

working MUCH better and only cost maybe 10 bucks! Thanks sooo much to Rascal1371 for the link.
