Great stuff, I can not understand why my wife thinks all reefers are insane. I always thought this was normal . I am glad I am not alone in how we view this hobby or disease.

that was classic. but why not raise your mag up to around 1500 should kill any algae in the tank it will brown some corals like monties but they will color up again after the mag comes back down.

Now I would do the three days with no light, then a large water change. A UV would be your friend.
I used to have to scrub stuff often, once the rocks stopped leaching, and the tank cycled enough for the tang and foxface my display is algae free. I almost miss the weekly hours of scrubbing, almost.
