I made the comment about the OP. But since it was years ago he probably has no interest in my comment.

+1 who cares about when the thread was posted its obviously still relevant to the hobby especially since someone brought it back from the dead. What does the persons status have to do with the question.......

Of course the post is relevant. My point is that addressing the OP is not needed since he has been gone so long. The rest of us can still use the info here. I actually thought it was better to use cold water. I have my RO/DI connected straight to my cold water line.

I just used my RO/DI unit for the first time this weekend and the directions say to never use hot water, only cold. I forgot the reason it said but I know it did say not to use hot water.

hot water will damage your ro membrance. idea temp is 77F. 90F will damage the membrane. I was looking into a blending valve but i lost interest since the only thing cold water does is decrease your production. Cold water makes cleaner water since the pores in the membrance are smaller, and if its warmer the pores get bigger so you make more water but less clean. 77F is the optimal temp.

Very well said, much better than my post. I completely agree.

There is really nothing "ideal" or "optimum" about 77F. If happens to be the temperature at which most residential membranes are run when their performance is tested by the manufacturer. That's all. There are trade-offs if you go warmer or colder.

Hmm. anything over 113F will void the warranty on a Filmtec membrane. You won't see any damage at 90F.
