Wow, great setup and attention to detail! Seems like you are taking your time and have done things the right way. One word of advice though with the Alk raising, and you might already know this. It is likely that when you start raising Alk, your Ca will start to drop so you'll need to keep an eye on it. Once you have both where you want them, a 2-part solution like C-Balance is an easy way to maintain the proper Alk/Ca levels.

Thanks bryman. No, I wasn't entirely aware of that.

How are you liking the DSB? Any issues?

No issues with the sandbed. It doesn't appear to be producing visible nitrogen bubbles yet, but that probably because I've been running a super clean tank with little more than a cleanup crew at this point.

The DSB appears healthy with lots of little critters, but from what I know, issues don't start to crop up until about 1 year in. I just have to be sure to rejuvenate the sand with fresh critters every year or so. Otherwise populations can become depleted and toxic gases can begin to buildup in the deepest layer.

Thanks Wowie, it was a challenge given limited space. This design was partly an experiment looking to answer just how small a sump can be. I don't think smaller would be possible.

BTW, is that 'M' for Mandel?
