I'm Terry, I have a few smaller tanks up now abd I'm working on several projects at the moment, a nano skimmer, some overflow boxes for Remora's , and working towards a big ol' cube(over 100 gal) this one I want to do led's and controllers and all that good stuff. Also I didn't realize that there were so many car nuts here. I am a former racer of cars, motocross, roadrace bikes , and even a stint as a freestyler. Plus I once did rods and customs and currently do some work on electric cars, the one in my avitar is the current PIkes Peak Hillclimb record holder that I was involved with the building and design with my cousin and the Guys at Compact Power. It's funny I always thought my car habbit was expensive. Now this.

Hello everyone, my name is Jimmy; I live north of the border in Wyoming. I'm stationed at the AF base in Cheyenne and work in Nebraska. I've been here since 2004 and have been in the military for 15 years. I started out as an automotive technician and got into a 1 deep slot as an automotive machinist, and now I’m a facility manager out at the Missile Alert Facility. I’ve been stationed around the world in places like Germany, Spain, Italy and Ireland (OK not really around the world more like in Europe) and of course the hot spots as well in the Middle East. (I won’t name specifics)
I got into the hobby about 17 years ago in 1992. I grew up in Long Beach California and within a 2 mile radius from my home there were 3 SW LFS. So it was a no brainer to get into the hobby. It was a real learning curve back then, you had to rely on advice from the LFS employers and they weren’t always right. And of course it wasn’t all LFS fault I’ve made quite a bit of mistakes myself. I've discovered MASC and RC last year (didn’t know there were sites out there like this) However, since then I have learned so much more. I currently have a 72 gallon running with 5 fish, a GBTA, a RBTA, softies and LPS. Nothing real spectacular, just my cube of the reef. My wife loves the hobby just as much as I do (which is good because this is the only hobby that we enjoy together, the only downside to it is that there’s no one there to say stop your spending too much!!) My other hobby is wood working…… (Which in my opinion a lot more expensive)

New to the hobby
Hi hi - I'm new to the hobby and RC. I posted a couple pics of my tank mainly to log my own progress and the battle with red algae!
Link I'm a native to Colorado grew up in Greeley (P-U). Moved to Denver in 04. I currently run the operations and Warehouse for Appliance Factory Outlet. I have a dog named Sam and I'm spending a lot of money on this new tank. |

Anyone know of a decent light set-up for a 29 gallon biocube? Has anyone done a DIY metal halide or T5 on the cubes?

T5's are only good for tank at least 24" long. You could let them hang over the edges a bit so you could probably make them work over a 22" area.

Finally posting!
I'm Ryan, and as you can tell I dig reefs and jeeps. At the moment I no longer own any jeeps but I'm sure that will change. I have a 72 gallon Bowfront that I'm currently building a stand and canopy for. I think if I had it to do over again I would go with a normal tank instead of being "different" and getting the neat-o curved one. I've had the tank for almost 3 years and I'm sure I have battled almost every single issue a tank could have. Currently I am still battling the supa-high nitrate war, but I think I will finally break down and actually buy a skimmer. Other than that, I love to tinker with the tank and build new things for it, just built a Kalk reactor a few weeks ago. I know I have a lot to learn about this hobby and I'm glad to know that there are a ton of us here in colorado! Thanks! Ryan |

Oh man I like the 72 bow. however I have been tinkering with a hood for it for about 2 months now but it sits halfway completed, I think I went a little too extreme

Haha! I feel that "too extreme" stuff! I just finished the front part of the canopy and it was pretty tough. I'm starting the front of the stand today and should have it finished sometime this week.(I hope)

for the nitrate probelm, try a deep sand bed. i have a 12x12 x7" section in my sump/fuge that really works great to keep the nitrates down.

Hi. My name is Craig.
I've lived in lived in Aurora or Denver my entire life. I am currently a landscaper. Haha! I say currently because it seems every couple of years I have to learn a new trade. Anyway, I've only had freshwater tanks. But I'm about to take the plunge into saltwater. I have a 55 bowfront that I can't wait to get started on. |

Zombie - I actually setup a remote DSB in a 7 gallon bucket. it's filled with about 45 pounds of oolitic, however, I still see no change in the nitrate and its been running for about 3 months now. I have it supplied with a maxijet 1200. How long does it usually take to get them up and running correctly?? should I just wait longer?

Not sure off hand, could be flow through it is too fast, they tend to need a bit of time for the water to run through the substrate and out, try slowing it down a bit. Maybe post a new thread for this question, it will be easier to get more answers.
