Well the 160 is starting to pull out some nice gunk Feed the fish/acans two days in a row, about 4-5 cubes in a 55 with 5 fish so that's a lot of food Here's about 2-3 days worth of skimmate nice and smelly |

what is the scfh with the factory pinwheel?, in gona drill a hole at the base so that the air line is not bent, will also be using shorter and stiffer tubing and the mesh mod.
I'll post scfh results later on today |

Thanks. Ok i tried the mesh mod but the scfh didn't improve dramatically. I want to get 30 scfh .
With the mesh mod however the reading is more stabe, doesnt jump as much. I might order the larger PPW since people are getting good results from it. I'll have to wait till the mesh mod breaks in and see what happens with the skimmate. |

I was talking about the difference between mesh mod and the small purple pinwheel.
The black dot is always jumping so its hard to get a good reading. |

A meshed wheel should produce 30 scfh pretty easily. Three layers of flat back mesh trimmed about 1/4" beyond the plate.

If i make it any larger, it seems to be off balance, it has a tough time starting or is really loud. I trimmed it the same diameter of the pinwheel and it's superquiet Last edited by ai-reefer; 04/22/2009 at 11:16 AM. |

It can take a few tries to make a decent mesh wheel & many times it will start hard or possibly require blowing into the airline to start. It's all about how far you want to push the pump to get the desired scfh. There's a few members who have had over 40 scfh from their mesh wheels.

Also a cone shaped riser would do a better job i think. the neck seems to be too wide on the octopus extreme 160, i could be wrong. One thing that surprized me is that eventhough the mesh only works a little bit better than the PPW, its much quieter than the PPW, i dont know why but i'm lovin it I'm guessing the mesh now will take a few days to break in? I will post first 24 hour picture here |

Where can you order the Purple pin wheel? I have the 160 with mesh and it is pulling about 35. Would like to try the other wheel.

The large PPW $40 you can get from reef specialty. It will pull about 30, which is lower than what you have. How did you do your mesh mod? |

I am finally through dealing with Coralvue!!!! They don't want to do anything about the noise issue with my skimmer! They have referred me back to the retailer, which is Reef Specialty, and I'm not going to bug Mike or Jeremy about a problem that is not theirs, but Coralvue's. When I inquired about Coralvue purchasing my skimmer back from me or exchanging it for another model not using the sicce pumps, I was quoted a price on a different skimmer and told to try and sell my skimmer for as much as I could get for it. Yeah right.....like I'm going to stick it to someone with a skimmer that's loud as a food processor or garbage disposal. I am done trying to work with Coralvue on this issue and since my skimmer is still WELL under warranty I will start to pursue other actions to get this problem resolved. I will never pay my hard earned money to a company that won't stand behind it's products or won't honor it's warranty. BUYERS BEWARE OF COMPANIES LIKE THIS!!!!!!!

I took mesh and used the pin wheel it came with. I cut it to size and pushed the mesh down into the pinwheel very gently. It started making smaller bubbles and pulling 35 scfh. It starts pulling about 30 and after an hour is up to 35.

tas, maybe you could sell it to someone who has their sump set up in a fish room. That way the loud noise wouldn't bother them.
Have you talked to Mike or Jeremy at all?

My skimmer finally settled down after going bizerk from the mudding and painting I did in the living room. I had to change out some water, but it is finally back to normal and I must say that this PPW is working out nicely. Turned the skimmer off last night to clean the cup and when I plugged it back in, it started right up at 33scfh. I believe these skimmers run best in the mid 30's. This reduces turbulence and makes them more efficient.
Hounddog, do you have any pics of that bearded dragon? Congrats.

I talked to Mike and Jeremy in the beginning.......but when it's been 3 months since purchase.....it's no longer the retailer's problem.....it's the manufactuer's problem. I've dealt with Coralvue for over a month now......and they did send me new pinwheels and magnet assemblies, but now that they didn't work it's like.....oh well...I guess you're going to have to live with it.....we won't buy back our dysfunctional products. Ugg...I'm so frustrated right now! I've spent $500 for a foaming garbage disposal!!!!!!! It will take me a couple of months to save up, but I'll be getting a BK 250 Deluxe Internal to replace this piece of garbage!!!
