I started out in the hobby with the same tank. Inherited it from a friend that had it sitting in his garage for god knows how long. Got it home, checked for leaks, everything seemed good. But about six months after it was set up one of the bottom seams gave. I got home to a wet carpet. Luckily It wasnt leaking for long, lost about 5 gallons of water and all livestock survived. But it was a big PITA. Just wanted to share my storry. You might want to reseal it if it was sitting dry for anextended period of time.

ok I just finished painting the back 3 panels of the tank (just so that everyone knows Home Depot no longer carries Krylon i had to go to a hobby/paint store to get them) ill have pics up tonight.

wrobel - I took your advise and checked the seals they seem fine but being super anal as i am i went ahead and bought some silicone to redo them and make sure they hold.

UPDATES

Finally finished the new stand i also bought a tank from a local reefer that was leaving the hobby so i was able to forgo the ever painful startup cycles

Finishing the stand took almost 2 months since i had to work on it one day a week at my parents house and my woodworking skill are less than par.

heres the stand finished at the apartment

Here's the plumbing (overflow, return and CL w/ SCWD)
closed loop has a 1200 gph Iwaki pump attached to it, i hope i have enough flow

and here is the tank FINALLY with water in it and a couple new friends

right now the sump is a rubbermaid but hopefully soon ill build myself an acrylic one, no glass tanks fits in the stand due to awkward dimensions

Very cool tank! I really love the creative idea of taking an old style tank and making it look like something new. Nice and clean! Can't wait to see it get filled

Nice save an re-use of an old tank!

Now what would be really cool if you could get rid of the top plastic piece so you get the modern-rimless look.

Guessing this has been addressed, but I wonder if it would be risky to remove it? It may not so much be there to "hold the glass together" as to protect the glass from chipping and damage. Just guessing.

Kevin

You could have a custom glass piece cut so it provides a 2" rim all around. ?.

Updates!!!

so ive done a couple updates to the tank

Flow

first off my panworld CL wasnt giving me enough flow so i added and MP10.
(thank you Elan)

Lighting

since i dont have a canopy i wanted to find a discreet way of adding some antinic lighting so i opted for a couple 460nm powerbrites and modded my pendant almost looks oem lol

Dosing

previously i was adding lime to my ato to maintain my calc and alc but my ph has been going a bit to high for my taste (pH8.6+) so i built a DIY dual doser unit to replace the kalk with randy's 2-part

and finally here are some tank shots with some new corals
