I have the fan set to blow out, only because it is at the top of the stand and heat rises. With all of the gaps around the glass I don't even think that a fan is needed.

ok I did get some new bulkheads and I just opened my new light. It is pretty nice so far. Seems well built. The lights it comes with are the Ushio BLV 10k. Ill have to put it over my other tank to see what it looks like. I have it on to burn in a bit. The light looks pretty white lighting up my kitchen. I have some pics I ll post here in a few. The T5 bulbs are the actinic plus. So I was pretty happy about that. Should have pump, net module and vortech tomorrow.

They retail for around $750 for tank and stand. But I was able to go down to premium and get them on sale. Saved quite a bit. Last I knew they had 2 left. the non drilled is cheaper too.

THis is the 4th vertex I have had. I did the review and started the vertex owner thread. The 100 isnt bad. it will hold me over for now. lol. I will have to see what kind of room I have when I get the new sump built in the next couple days.

That makes me fee better about all of the money I am spending on this setup. My LFS only charged me $603 for the tank and stand.

When I got the alert that there was a new post I was really hoping that I would be seeing your light in place over the tank. Get to work! I can't wait to see how it looks.

Very nice! What made you decide to paint the back of your tank? You have me questioning if I should paint mine before filling it up. My original plan was to keep it clean and not painted.

it gives the tank some contrast to the back of the tank. other wise you can see cords ect in the back from power heads and anything else back there. cleaner look imo

Nice setup you have started mojo!

James Fatheree just came and talked to our club a month or so ago. He and another guy did some testing with lighting and discovered (by accident) that having a painted background cuts down on the amount of light on the back of the tank. When the tank is full, we get some benefit from light reflecting off the glass/air barrior of the tank. When the surface is painted, we lose that reflection. You can place something on the back of the tank and as long as it's not bonded to the glass, the reflection will still occur. Depending on your rockwork, that may or may not be an issue for you. Just some information I found interesting from the talk.

Looks good Jesse. I'm liking the look of that tank alot. I might have to copy ya. LOL. Nice and clean.
If you painted the outside of the tank, wouldnt you still get the reflection off of the glass itself?
