that is exactly what i said...lol
really I was wondering what would motivate them to do that...

here is an chunk of that conversation, but i will protect peoples anonymity:

I had suggested that octo had ripped off their design from ATB, and here's the response:

"The cone is sold to CV from atb so its no rip off mark. CV does the distribution for atb. They are just slapping on cheaper parts. The cylinder skimmers are similar to the hurricone's. I wonder if they will replace them? May as well since these guys are cheaper to make and performance will be similar. So they have the atb 840 body and the 1050 body, so i think the 1050 cv mod will come out a few mths after that cone. Will pry pull 85scfh and be in the ballpark of 500-800bux. "

and my response:
"WOW...is ATB on crack??? I cant believe they did that... "

and then the response to that:
"Times are tough right now man. Can't blame them."

maybe victor from ATB will chime in with some info.
maybe this is simply a rumor, this is just what i have been told by people who typically know about these things.

great, then I might be wrong...
feel better now???
I could really care less if im wrong or right, i just want to know the f'ing truth...
something that can be hard to find among manufacturers wishing to keep their practices secret.

and you chatting with victor is total heresay.
until i see victor, anton, or any official person from ATB or CV simply post the truth, i will reserve judgement.

ultimately it doesnt matter a ratsass where this skimmer came from to me, just what results it can produce, and if CV can live up to the warranty. it looks like a great skimmer ON PAPER.

that's not me getting nasty...lol
your the one insisting I'm wrong yet giving no proof, other than a "conversation"...

whats really stupid is that CV (or ATB if they happen to be involved), don't just come out say SAY exactly whats going on...
ridiculous...

Skimmer

All I can tell you is that ReefSpeciality.com sold me the Octo Extreme 200 with purple pin wheel for my 125 and it's very good and i'm happy. For a 180, you may want the 250 with the second pump. If you want to spend more, of course there are many options.

Call ReefSpeciality and talk about it. I think it's Mike and he will give your his experienced perspective.

It helped me.

Dan
