I understand the emphasis on the maturation process being based upon the cycling and stabilization of the water chemistry. Having said that, I feel that a tank is never fully matured. Unless all of your rock structure is completely encrusted with corals, then your tank is not matured. It is always still in a state of change and growth, and is never really fully mature.
But anyways, I agree with the recommendations for newbies to wait at least 6 months if not a year to consider thier tanks stable. That is, if there are no meds dosed, no major crashes, no major dieoff, no major spikes or swings. It's all dependent on the individual tank and system.

whether you have 600 lbs of live rock or 60 the process is the same---the bacteria have to cycle for the increased bioload---they do not keep there numbers at a high level in anticipation. Adding 30 fish at once is very problematic. But I wouldn't know for sure--heck I don't have the money to buy 2 tangs none the less 30 tangs.

I was just about to post the link to that! I think it's one of the best explanations ever given.

Somebody once said- I may have even read this here... Nothing good ever happens fast in an aquarium. Personally, there is NO WAY I would even consider stocking a mature tank that fast. Even if I just won the lottery.... Let alone a new tank. That's gonna be real fun treating should a disease pop up. Not to mention how you may have to remove all the live rock to do it. Unless of course you prefer dead rock... Hmmm but then, what about the magic live rock that has made this all possible.....
