Yet to figure outhow to connect my 1000SSS

i dont have pics to share but i wanted to ask for some advise on how to get this thing setup.

just got my AI SOL blue and the controller does not work.
got the Octi 1000SSS and the pump wont fit properly

anyone had problems with getting the union outlet to go inside the opening at the bottom?
mine was so stubborn i had to hammer it in [amazed at the quality of the build of the skimmer that it took the beating without cracking]

i pushed the union outlet as far in as possible and my air intake adapter wont fit inside the skimmer side hole to screw into the pump.

any pointers folks??

also, what water level do you guys recommend and how do you get rid of the billions of air bubbles from the gate valve outlet?
i want dry skimming but this is causing serious issues.

cheers and many thanks in advance
Ranjith

i run a xp-5000 ext cone on my 180 display 600 gallon system i've had it since it came out it's a beast i had to replace the pump do to some issues so i would recommend everybody to save there receipts if you want to obtain the 3 year warranty but regardless of the issue i had with the pump i still would buy this skimmer again mine is oversized for my system i could had gone with the 3000 ext-cone but i'm ready for my next upgrade i will try to upload pictures but i'm having problems with uploading right now

Are there known issues with the bubble blaster pumps? The one on my xp-1000sss started shutting off after only a month of use. After searching here and on the Coralvue forum, seemed to be a recurring problem with various models. Very frustrating to have to ship out and wait for a replacement.

well the sites call the interanl1000 the one that has the pump on the outside of the body and the sss1000 had it under the skimmer body so yes there both internal but no there not the same they dont make a external 1000 from what i have seen... im wondering if there is a difference in preformance on the 2 of these or if the only differnce is the space that is taken up

SSS stands for Super Space Saver. My understanding is that there is no performance loss. The positive is the space saving. The negative is that pump maintenance is a bit more of a pain in the butt.

Tatre11.. In what gal. tank you have the 1000??? Is it working great??

I am a little confused with all the readings for my 80 gal with 20 sump and can't decide which route go. I am thinking that the 1000 will work ok and be in the border line, but the 2000 will be overkill and i will have to overfeed so the 2000 keep working leading me to other problems like phosphates, algae, nitrates, etc. Any of them will be a huge upgrade vs my ER RS-80.

Thanks for sharing your experience.

SRO XP-5000 External

Here is SRO-5000 XP Ext, I'm considering the XP-8000 EXT now as I think I'm at the limit with this one:

Is there a drain fitted on the collection cup for these skimmers?
I'm thinking of the 5000 XP external model.
Thanks

Yep. You can see it in many of the above pics, as well as mine below. It's got a little black plug in it.

I picked up an SRO3000 internal for my FOWLR 150g DT w/ 75g being used as a sump. Tank isn't set up yet (but getting close!), but I have a vanity pic of the skimmer anyway.

I just ordered a pair of SRO's, a 1000 and a 2000. They will be on my door stop on Tuesday. Looking forward to putting them into action.

I want to purchase either SRO-3000EXT or SRO-XP3000E. One is external hybrid cone, the other is external complete cone. Which one do you guys recommend? The complete cone supposedly has smaller back pressure on the pump. But I've also read, performance is compariable on the two. One thing I've notice is the inner diffuser plate can not be removed on the complete cone unit. Owner of XP series skimmers, do you guys have problem doing maintainence on the skimmer since the plate can't be remove? Thanks.

reefnoobie86,

How long had your skimmer been in use for? Have you clean it once yet?

Bh-2000

I bought this Reef Octopus BH-2000 HOB for my 34 Solana to replace the stock skimmer. I've had it on the tank for 2 months and man does this thing kick ***!

It's been sitting on the side of my tank since it was new but tomorrow I'll finally be able to move it onto the back of the tank where it belongs. Here are a few pictures I just took.

Stupid sideways pics

Got my SRO Internal 1000 & 2000 skimmers in. They are really nice!! Very high quality. I only put the 1000 into operation, and it works great. I failed to take a pic of the first morning after skim, and it was a half of a waste cup, a little too wet, greenish/brown nonetheless. I added the waste line, and then had to put an elbow due to the height of the external waste container. I also had to punch a hole in the side of the remote container to make it drain properly, as the SRO is shorter than my previous skimmer. Here are some shots of them.

Yesterday during the day

This morning dialed in, with an elbow.
