Well I spoke with Chessnutt and he has a similar setup as I, only higher bioload. He is getting a 1/2 of the cup every day run a little wet. I'm just wondering if the xp 5000 would perform drier on a 180gal - heavy stock tank.

I think I'm leaning toward the xp 3000, it's still a huge skimmer. I just can't get around the numbers difference on the xp 5000. Twice the scfm and twice the ability to take in water. Just seems like theres a lot of room to tweak the flow and air. The only limit is neck diameter. 6" is a lot more area then 5".... Still bangin my head...

The XP 5000 is way to large for a 180gal IMO. I ran the SRO 5000 which has the same neck size and pump which proved to be too large even for my huge bioload. I have since placed the XP3000ext on the system and has proved to work much better fro my size system. Neck size is really what contributes to sizing a skimmer up to a system along with a matching airpull. The XP-3000 pulls more air and at lower watt draw than any skimmer of its size on the market today. Lets put it this way the XP-3000ext I have running pulls 60scfh at 40watts which is comparable to the Reeflo 250 stock that pulled 60scfh at 140+ watts. Don't be fooled this is not a small skimmer. I recommend the XP5000 to be placed on display tanks no smaller that 220gallons with a heavy load.

Against your warning JR, I went ahead and ordered an xp5000 from you guys just a few minutes ago.

Let me say that you did recommend the xp 3000 and said that the xp 5000 would be too large. But I went ahead and ordered the xp 5000 anyway, as I plan to upsize my tank in the near future.

Having said that, I will try and tweak the flow into the xp 5000 as to increase the contact time and see where she goes. I'm willing to wait a month or 2, to let this big sucker break in. I will try and inform the public of my results, but I can't say you didn't warn me. Thanks to you and Mike for the exceptional customer service thus far.

Skimmer shipped out same day, and Mike sent me pics of how he recommends setting up (externally).
