My tangs are tiny, first of all. How is my fish load 3x the size of the tank if my water stays extremely stable and low nitrates? If a tang is a the size of a small chromie who are you to say they are too big for a tank? My blue hippo has had one tiny white spot twice in 8 months, he had ick when I first bought him and it cleared up within 2-3 days in the this tank. Doing a water change immediately after seeing this pimple cleared the one spot within a day. I don't base water changes on this but if he does get a spot in the future I'm going to do a water change. I will post a current you tube video to see how big the tank appears to a 1"tang and a 1"1/2 copperband. When I feel the fish are starting to get bigger I have a 112 gallon they can transfer to. The fish load is not too big with how it's setup. Lots of rock, big skimmer, refugium and frequent water changes. Thanks for your concern and I like you hate seeing big fish in small tanks, but mine are tiny for now.

Almost forgot, you don't 'clear ich within 2-3 days'. There is ich in the tank and the only way to get rid of it would be to get ALL of the fish out and leave them out of the tank for at LEAST 4-5 weeks. A water change does not make his 'ich pimple' disappear. And if the hippo had ich when you bought it, why didn't you qt it? Don't you qt the fish anyway? |

Just wanted to say I'm with Tampareefer79 on this one. How long has this tank been set up? I think it's funny that you mention your abundant amount of live rock. It just limits the swimming space for these fish even more. Like TR79 said, not even your 112 is large enough for these fish. Tangs are constant grazers. They produce more waste than a chromis so the size comparison is moot.

the fish was put in after lfs qt thats no gauratee. He cleared up no other fish has ever gotten ich and never havent seen any sign of it, and yellow tangs will show stress with white line on there side, mine never shows this, he is bright yellow and eats alot aswell. I could see you being upset if i was putting a tiny powder blue or a achilles in there but these tangs are happy, (I have tried to catch them to put in bigger tank and they didn't want to go. they kept evading the net and hiding behind rocks. JK) If the fish were stressed out in anyway they would show it. I might just get another tang to add some more fish to my sardine can.lol. the rocks have lots of caves to swim through and they graze all day long as well as hiding spots.

I would really like to know the history of this tank. Could you show when fish were added. btw, the reason the fish didn't swim into the net has nothing to do with them loving their current home.

Please tell me how long. Evading this question does not help your case. Did you add all tangs at the same time. I'm trying to get a better understanding of what you are calling success, but it is difficult knowing that I could dump all these fish into my tank right now and they'd probably look happy for a while and it would take some time to throw my water parameters out of wack. 3mos? 6mos? 1year? Do you think that by overstocking(imo), they may have too many distractions to fight? I'm also curious about the different damsels in your tank. How do the occ. clowns get along with the tomato? How's that black and white striped damsel getting along with everybody. I wanted to watch your video, but it was taking to long to load. Thanks.

I got the chromies first and the tomato clown, next the copperband, and then the sailfin and the yellow on the same day, and about 3 weeks later the blue hippo. they are about a year old in there, heres a early pic of tank with the sailfin and the yellow and copperband. I think its the day the sailfin and yellow went in.

i took the perculas out, I didn't know then the tomato would be aggresive. that was my mistake. they are alive in another tank though, clowns are easy to catch. I also took out 2 damsels as i didn't know they were agressive. I had to drain the tank to catch them.

If your tank has been successful in the long term then it's hard to argue with that. That being said I still wouldn't try this myself. I'll just say that your success thus far is not the norm and many other hobbyists are not willing to keep up with a high maintenance tank like yours. Thanks for explaining further.

thanks! I don't believe its high maitenance at all, 10 gallon water change is 5 minutes. and its a enjoyable maintanance.

feeding 5 times a day and water changes every 10days is high maintenance to a lot of us. I feed only once a day maybe twice. I change my water every 7-10 days, and a lot of people have told me they consider that high maintenance. It's great that you enjoy it... that is surely the roots of your success thus far imo.

Those LEDs lights make those corals look great! Even with some of the pictures being a little blurry (I cant take pics for the life of me, so not making fun they still look like they pop. That certainly is high maintenance in my mind, but hey your reward is how great your tank looks! Thanks for sharing!
