if you really want a taller tank then get a 3/4' thick glass but it will cost you

Solitude do you have any pictures of your tanks Eurobracing.

Question Is it a pain in the butt to keep the under side of the Eurobracing clean from salt creep? and does Eurobracing affect a hanging light from from entering on the sides where the bracing is?

Honestly, I don't even notice. I know that there is no salt creep on there though. I usually stays moist.

You can make a rimless tank 50" or 100" tall if you want... its all in the thickness of the glass.

3-5" glass is not in a lot of peoples budget anyway... just sayin'.

Well i have decided to go with the rimless 20" high but i have a question about the bulkhead placement in the trapezoid overflow. The plan is to have (2) 1.5" drains and (1) 1" return split to (2) 3/4" bulkheads connected to lock tight one on each side right under the overflow teeth. So here is my question should all the bulkheads be drilled in the center of the overflow like this drain, return, drain, or should I have the 2 drains up front and return in the center behind them or return up front and the drains behind it? which one would be the best way?

The Lee Mar rimless I ended up having them make for me measures 60"x18"x20" Tall. 1/2" Starphire. Like mentioned above, they wont go taller. Other factors to this height limit is the depth (Front pane to back) and of course the length.

Here is an image from January 2010

Then a little later:

I have a build thread as well.

Why do you need 2 - 1.5" drains? If the other is for backup, what kind of pump did you decide to go with? What were the final dimensions of the tank?

Final dimensions are 48x24x20, the return pump is eheim 1262. The reason for 1.5" for the emergency drain is to be safe and not have the tank overflow if the main drain gets plugged up.

Solitude I guess i could use a 1" emergency drain since it has worked great for you with the same pump but i'm just paranoid of a flood.

I'm using the same pump as you for my 60x30x20 and I have 1.5" drain and a 1" emergency drain. I'm using the Herbie method to quiet down the flow and when I was testing, I closed my valve completely for my main drain to see if the 1" could handle it and it did with no problem. For my tank, after the head loss, I'm pushing about 600gph through that pump. If you have the real estate for your overflow box to handle the 2 - 1.5" drains that it's better to be safe than sorry.

Solitude i when i called Lee Mar and asked about the size of the trapezoid overflow for a 48" long tank i was told 14" back x 8" sides x 6" front. It should fit the 1.5" fine and i also drew it up with google sketch up.

If it helps, I only have 1 - 1" return. My flow is from 2 vortechs.

They do make 24" tall tanks. I got a 48x24x24 starphire LeeMar Rimless. I went to a couple of Lfs and almost everyone said that they dont make 24'' tall ,then i went to carson tropical and he gave the best price.

A few years ago Leemar made my Starphire tank (36"x24"x22") which is 22" tall. This is slightly under 90G. However, when i recently asked Ali to quote me on a newer and larger tank (36"x36"x24") he said that the highest they would go is 20". So it appears that their policy has changed. I wonder if its due to some failures.

Anyways, i'm still quite surprised that they would limit the height at 20", however, the horizontal span is allowed to go 48" or even 60" as posted above. At 60" length rimless, that front pane must be showing some deflection. I'm sure that if someone ran the numbers, the amount of flex due to a 60" long (and 20" tall) rimless is greater than a 24" tall rimless over a much shorter length (i.e. 36"). If somebody knew what the modulus is of starphire glass, i (or someone else) could come up with some numbers. Then again, any reputable tank manufacturer should be running these numbers and have this all in some excel spreadsheet.
