I would like to see results from running both BP and WM pellets together on one system.

Tagging along. I would like to know how long do the WM pellets last as compared to the NP Biopellets. If they don't last as long then the price reduction may not make as much of a difference.

Got mine running today. Did a lot of stuff. I'll post up later. GAC and EcoBak running separately.

Here is my setup. I put a screen on top to get rid of sponges.
Here is the pellets, they are pretty small. I put the same screen on bottom. I use the plastic backing for needle point at hobby stores. They come in 3" round shapes. It didn't work very ell on bottom so this was my second attempt that works great. And here is 500ml in a BRS reactor and them running. I don't really have them tumbling, but flow is increased to expand them and make sure they don't get clogged.

Thanks for posting the pics. What pump are you using for the reactor? Do you plan to get a stronger pump so the pellets tumble?

I have a Mag 5 on both BRS reactors. I got the pump to push through GFO and ROx .8 GAC. I found my MJ900 was not up to the task with as easily ROx plugs. So now I plumbed my reactors by tee'ing off the Mag 5 and running the reactors paralell. WM says tumbling is not necessary and low flows are fine. I want mine just "expanded" to keep them clean and know detrirtus isn't building up. Not too concerned with tumbling until I see a need to.

Just to give some background, my NO3 and PO4 have always been low. Probably not ULN standards, but good. I have moved towards mostly SPS and want a tank for them to thrive.
I have never had any nusiance algae problems or cyano. My cheato in my fuge barely grows. I have some film algae on the glass that needs to be cleaned 3-4 days. My hope is to stop running GFO and of course feed more. My NO3 is < .5 and my PO4 today was .008 with a Merck kit. I'll report on parameters, algae growth and coral response. If I'm happy in a couple of weeks I'll start ramping up the food.

It was my impression that these Bacterial driven systems work by assimilating an exact ratio of C:N:P in order to increase bacterial biomass. The uptake ratio is due to ribo and deoxy ribonucleic acid synthesis, amongst others, so regardess of the type of bacteria propogated, the ratio of uptake is the same.
If different bacterial cultures are propogated by different biopolymers, one may be more efficient than the other at utilising nutrients, but if optimised, any biopellet should function similarly to others and to liquid vodka or other ulns system. In short, all bacterial driven systems work in the same way and the ratio of uptake is very similar if not identical. just my opinion though, from what I've read. Interestingly, I'm sure I've read that Julian Sprung has a version coming soon too...... Mo Quote:

Bought mine last night at the SCRK meeting. Was a good presentation by Jon. I placed the pellets in my TLF reactor as soon as I got home. Jon also stated it would take about 4 weeks to start seeing results. Also I could stop dosing Bacteria and carbon into the water stream.

Another thing Jon mentioned last night at the meeting that the flow rate should be about 100gph.
