Plasma is about 70-80 lm/watt (and remained so for at least 3 years), Cree XP-G can already do that, and Cree XM-L reaches 180lm/watt driven at 3A.
Cree also announced like half a year ago that they've already hit 200lm/watt, with products hitting the market later this year, and I'm not surprised they'll break the 200lm/watt record in a few months' time. So in terms of energy efficiency, Plasma is obsolete. |

Thanks for the numbers. I think that there is more to plasma than effieciency - I've yet to see LEDs with Color Rendition that compares to plasma - but I'm not an expert on LEDs, so I could be missing something.
And for what it is worth, this thread is not a "PLASMA IS THE BESTEST LIGHTINING EVER!!" thread. This is simply a thread to show what plasma is doing in practical application. So while I appreciate the many comments about the joys of LEDs, I will no longer be responding to them. |

Thanks. I will be posting some new shots soon. I just upgraded my plasmas from Straylight to the newer bulbs (whole fixture has to be replaced) They are awesome. The "yellow" issue is much less apparant. Very crisp, white natural light.

Funny, I have the new fixtures as well. I really need new PAR numbers as they do appear to put out more light. I agree that the color is much clearer and much more a "white" output.

Nice tank .
I remember reading somewhere there is a long list of waiting customer's already . That is some crazy growth . Two of them covering a 6 foot tank is pretty impressive. How much light spill is in the room ?

Very Nice growth! I have the same short list for my lighting upgrade. I'm running two 250w Lumen bright pendants over my 60x30 sps tank and have never really been happy with the setup (not enough coverage for my wide tank).
I'm having a real hard time trying to decide between the Giesemann Infinity T5 mh combo, the AI led's or the straylight plasma's. I also prefer the natural look of sunlight so I'm not to worried that the light won't be blue enough(I run Giesemann 12k's in my pendants and love the crisp white look). Where did you purchase your lights? Also you wouldn't happen to know if these can be dimmed with a profilux controller. Thanks

It looks like StrayLight is coming out with two new fixtures. I might have to wait on my light upgrade to see what's in the works.

I have only seen one plasma light and it ran insanely hotter then anything I have ever seen, making the room it was in 85degrees even with ac running. How hot does your plasma get? compared to other light fixtures you have had?

Thanks for posting this. It gives me another point of reference in my research. If you can give us an update on how your corals are doing, we'd love to see it.
thanks again! |

8 years later I wonder how this went. I am testing plasma over my 130 with a gavita300, with the bloom bulb which is a higher kelvin. I made the choice more out of curiosity. Early days yet.
