I've had good experiences using both fedex and UPS. That said, for a 2 hour drive, I would rather just go pick the corals up myself.
Shipping live animals is always a huge risk. My latest fedex shipment was some snakes that friends in Cali were taking care of for me that they couldn't take with them on their move. Luckily, everything turned out great. I usually like to contact my local shipping facility and agree to be there to get the package first thing in the morning (generally 8am) to get things unboxed that much sooner.

All you have to do is have it marked Hold at desk. When you place your order instead of your shipping address have it marked Hold at desk. You do need to know the address of your local FedX. You can watch on the tracking site and when it's at your local it will show. I do it every time it's only a 5 minute drive for me and it saves my order from being on a truck all day. I call my orders in and they know just how to do this.

I know at my local distributor they need to have everything by 7am. They open to the public at 8. It's as simple as doing what retired reefer said. If whoever is shipping doesn't do that, just call their 800 number with your tracking info and tell them you want to be there first thing in the morning to pick things up. I have done that 2-3 times now.

I don't buy live stock if fedex is shipping it to me anymore iv'e called the company a bunch letting them know about their drivers. Problems never got fixed probably didn't even get talked about. Might have to try what you guys are suggesting never thought about that.
1. Driver never knocks. 2. Seems like they try to avoid me and sneak onto are porch to drop stuff off. 3. If they do knock by the time I get to the door which is a few seconds their back into their car driving off. So I never get to sign for anything. 4. Don't know if it happens to you guys but the delivery time is always off by 2-3hrs somtimes they don't get to my house till 10pm. Didn't order livestock that time but I am asleep during the week by 10pm most days so its left outside overnight. |

Update!!
Just about everything died in my order, but I finally got a reply to my email from reefs2go. The woman I was speaking with said she can put in to reship my entire order on Monday 6/6/2011 no charge and to let her know if that was ok. I quickly replied that it was, however this time I told them to ship to my girlfriends job which is 10 min from our house and I'll be off that day but it will be delivered by fedex express not standard fedex ground. It should be there by 9am so that's at least 4 hours less time on a truck and in a bag. Reefs2go has stepped up their customer service 10 fold. I've never had an issue before, but did have issues getting in touch with them or unanswered emails. Now I hear back and they take care of the problem. They are still ok in my book |

FedEx is the worst company. Drivers, especially in apartment complexes love to go straight to the main office and drop everything off and leave (lazy people) and then claim they attempted a delivery when they didn't and everyone knows it. I choose UPS whenever I can yet it seems everyone now ships FedEx. If you used a credit card let them know and when they credit you back and place the penalty on the LFS and insurance maybe FedEx will start waking up.
I am still waiting for my Saturday delivery today. Hope I do not fall into the same issue as I watch the delivery status updates xD. GL |

I received a fedex shipment from DD, a chocolate tang. I heard two thuds at the front door like they threw it, it hit the door and then the ground.
Of course the package has live fish printed all over it. They just don't care...

I had a few bad experiences when i used to live in the states several years ago.
-they never knock (will leave your livestock in the heat/or cold) even if you have your door wide open, with a big sign indicating for them to ring the door bell/or knock and come in because you have expensive products. Most of the time, they run up toss the box down and flee away. I have watched from my window before where they did this. (of course i had my digital camera) and a complaint was made to their supervisor. -deliveries that were supposed to made at a certain time, was late/or delayed. When you pay for a service, you should be able to get it.. if they claim to be here by 1030hours and show up at 2pm, i should never be charged for the price. -sometimes they were spot on, other times they fell off the deep end.

I did find out there is a lawsuit between fedex express and fedex ground. The basis of the suit is that the contracted drivers for fedex ground are not holding up to their end of the contract. Fedex express is the business half of the company.
