I got a piece of LR one time that had a small patch of orangy coral. Turned out to be a peach digitata.

pearlfish, basket star, several porcelain crabs. The pearlfish was probably the most startling discovery though since it didn't appear out of its "cave" until several months after getting the rock.

When I first got into reef tanks, hitchhikers were the main draw for me. But then again my first tank was acquired from a dude from Florida who said all his stuff was collected by hand... His! Lol needless to say, my forehead was stuck to the class nightly...well, daily and nightly. I love this hobby today like I did 5 years ago. And with my current tank being mostly Marco, this thread has me wanting to place an
order with Tampa bay saltwater. |

Drae, hitchhikers were what got me hooked on this hobby, as well.

It's a basket starfish; most likely Schizostella bifurcata.

Schizostella bifurcata is not true basket starfish and it only eats gorgonian which is why it's frequently seen as hitchhiker among this coral. Generally speaking, basket starfish is not easy to keep alive long term but we have better equipement and knowledge so it's not as challenge compare to 5 years ago. If you have a dedicated NPS set up (like the one from this month's TOTM), it would be ideal.
Totally agree!
