Loved the video, that song made me sad...

What did you use to film the video and what program did you use to edit the video?

Whenever you get the chance w/ the 100 degree optics, that would be awesome! Really amazing tank, it's nice that you have been growing all these corals under actinics for so long! Makes me hopeful that my corals will continue to thrive w/ the change to LED lighting from the MH/T5 fixture I had!

Cheers,
John

I used VideoPad from NCH - it's nice and easy to use.

Can you please help me out and tell me how many of these modules I will need for
tank 63" x 31.5" x 23.5" (L x W x H)??

Also, Is there a hanging kit for these or do they have to sit on the tank?

Thanks guys

Yeah the cords can be easily organized if you just plan ahead.

Each module would cover about an area of 1.5' diameter, so you'll probably need 3-5 modules depends on what you're keeping in your tank.

If LPS/softies then 3 should be enough, using 100 degrees optics. You could always add a 4th module later if you think 3 is not enough.

If SPS dominated you may get 4 first, play around with the optics, and likewise you can always add a 5th module.

They have hanging kit, but I choose to mount mine with the frame.

great video, compared to your old measurement,in my humble opinion, there is no difference about par levels. what do you think

The PAR is just about the same, however we're only using hobby grade PAR sensors, so by no means it's very accurate, but that should be good enough to give me a good idea how much light my corals are receiving and they should be getting about the same amount with my new lights.

i love them. ive been considering buying a 4 module set for my 72x18x21 tank.

i was looking over your par readings. they are very high. i have a few german blue monti's under 250w mh's with par readings at about 350 and started to bleach out. i cant imagine them under 500-600 par.

Question - what is the power on status of the lights after a failure?

I ask because the old Maxspect stuff would restart in a power on until the next light cycle = did not work for me.

Thanks

I just look up the Maxspect site and saw they posted the updated specs:
http://www.maxspectusa.com/index.php...d=11&Itemid=15

The Cree XP-G with 3000K 85 CRI seems to have a very good amount of red and yellow color in its spectrum (the yellow-ish color bulb you saw on my photos), so I don't think you need to add red bulbs in your configuration afterall.

I never seen it myself so I don't have any comment nor can I compare it, sorry.

You can always swap to the 100 degree optics to spread out the light and lower the PAR, my corals are used to the high PAR so I don't want to change it when I moved to the new lights, so I used 40 and 70 degrees optics.

I've tried intentionally disconnect power on my controller and lights (in fact I did it a few times when I was trying out different optics), and the controller / LED module automatically pair up again. Looks fine with me.

If you look at the photo you'd know that there're corals and rocks that were blocking my sensor, if you position the LED module directly on your clams, using 40 degrees optics, I'm sure there'll be more than enough light for them.

With the ball-joint mount, it's so flexible to tilt and position the module where ever you need the most light.

Whats the color of the Xm-L? Do you think there is too much white? Do you feel like there should be more blue?!?!

I think that when all channels are on 100% intensity, the look can look quite white... kind of like a 8000-9000K bulb, but if you only do that for about 2-3 hours per day to give your corals a PAR boost in the middle of the day, you can easily change your programming to give the desired 15-20Kish look that most people like these days while you are home after work.

But if you want to ramp up all channels to 100% intensity and want to maintain the higher kelvin look, you'll need more blue/royal blue LEDs to balance out the XMLs since they are so darn powerful and higher wattage.

Cheers,
John
