And granted, the spread is slightly better on Radion, but still even with ai hung much heigher than radion: 75w vs. 130w. $400 vs. $750 510 umol vs. 395 umol. Nothing seems to add up

Im pretty happy with the numbers...

Keep in mind, I am using a 250W radium bulb powered by galaxy in the middle of the tank still (2 radians on sides)

My only concern is PAR, and factual data and my observations make only one statement: Radions are browning out my SPS progressively (getting photos together) due to lack of intensity, Radion is only usable on first 10 inches of depth for sps, the rest is considered totally underlit. So, without bashing anyone, Ecotech has created what I call a $750 softies light that they advertise openly as being very usable on large systems (in their forums with their quantity suggestions) According to Dana Riddle the required par for photo saturation of most SPS falls into 300-600 mmols range, according to all independent Radion tests, that range is only available in upper 10 inches of water.

The advice given by my LFS is now resounding louder than ever: Go with the brand that has been in the game longer (Aqua Illuminations)

Photosaturation and PAR required to grow are two VERY different things. Sanjay joshi has many articles out saying SPS only need about 100 PAR to live and grow. The Radion provides more than enough light especially when you look into the downfall with PAR meters.

More than one person has reported corals browning out under LEDs and then color returning later. It is all part of the acclimation process.

If you weren't prepared for this, don't switch to LEDs.

I hope you are right, because in 4 years of hobby I've never had corals brown out on me, the only thing that ever happened was pale/washed out colors from over-lighting.
