my LFS has like 3 of them! i think they were going for $25 too.

Wow. Some things common to me cost you a fortune, but because they're common to me I don't care for them. Fickle, and shallow, I know.

Still want that black tang though. Dreaming of a whole house built around the tank that is needed to support him, so ultimately the price tag on the fish is pretty small.

I had a hippo in a 90g for a while. I bought one of the tiny ones at the LFS for about $20. The little booger destroyed a few hundred dollars worth of coral. It's rare and unlikely, but it was a result of my decision to put him in too small of a tank with more aggressive inhabitants.

Maybe look for a different species?

If I found a 1 or 2" hippo i'd consider it for my 75G, I would have no problems pulling him when he hit 4" for someone with a bigger tank.
