Post screen shots of the Apex network settings, the router's status page, and the router's port forwarding page(s). Or email them to russ-at-reeftronics.net

ill go ahead and email them. I don't see a port forwarding page. i followed the steps in the guide for port forwarding for ATT 2wire router. It had me go into my firewall and do a few things. ill take pics of that and send but i don't see anything in my routers page that says anything about forwarding. sending now

Rixhater, everything looks good... except for ONE setting. The default gateway in the Apex is incorrect. You have 192.168.1.1 in there; it needs to be the router's LAN IP address - 192.168.2.254. Change this, restart the Apex, and try external access again.

Also, the Apex DNS server settings need to be changed the same way... to 192.168.2.254. This isn't part of the access issue, but email alarms won't work until you change these.

You done good! That was all of the info I needed to get a solid picture of what you've set up.

Port forwarding is just the generic term. In some routers, it's called Virtual Server; If I'd known you had a 2Wire, I'd have asked specifically for the Pinholes and Applications screens

ok i changed the setting in the apex to 192.168.2.254 i also changed the apex's primary and secondary DNS server setting to the same thing. I restored the apex and attempted to connect to it from outside the network and nothing... in order to connect to it i just type in the address i created followed by the port number. i have been typing in cliffsapex.from-fl.com:8000 this is exactly what i was typing in. is this wrong or perhaps did i miss a setting somewhere?

Two things...

You said you tried port 8000. Your router's pinhole setup is set to forward port 80, not 8000.

cliffsapex.from-fl.com resolves to an IP address of 108.107.210.xxx. Your router's public IP address is 65.9.106.xxx. The 108.107.210.xxx address is part of block allocated to Sprint... are you running the DynDNS updater on your MacBook? If so, it will update your DDNS hostname with the public IP address of wherever you are at... Starbucks, work/school, the cellular network when you are using your phone's hotspot to connect the Mac, etc.

If so... put the Mac back on your home network. Force an update using the DynDNS client. Then, using your phone's browser, try to access http://cliffsapex.from-fl.com.

i was attempting to see if possibly there was an error with the port and changed it from 80 to 8000 on both apex and pinhole. it didnt resolve anything i have it at 8000 still right now but can change it back if its an issue. Why would cliffsapex.from-fl.com resolve to that IP? If i click on the DNS updater it shows my status as "ok" with my public IP address. And yes i am running DynDNS on my macbook. i know last night when we were talking i clicked on the DNS updater and it shows a screen with my host name (in a drop down box), the interface(in a dropdown box, set at web-based ip detection), then it has status which says"ok" and shows my public address. after i did it last night i tried getting on using the mac connected to my sprint cell hotspot. I have noticed a little pop up showing me when my IP changes so i think the DNS is working but not sure why it links to the IP you mentioned above instead of the public.
