Just my 2 cents. I was talking to a large group of people about it at an LFS and that topic came up. But it was all opinionated. You learn something every day! I would rather be proven wrong than go on a falsified belief system.

My LFS is going to walk me through a fresh water bath tomm on the phone..... Any thoughts?

Baths do absolutely nothing for ich. The parasite is buried well into the skin and the SG of the FW can't touch it. The ''whitespot" is not even the actual parasite. I'd post your problem in the disease section of the forum and read the ich stickies at the top of that section.
Also; I would worm this (and all fish) with Prazi-Pro. Internal worms may be a big factor in his weight problem. IMO, you have a lfs that I would never buy from. This fish should never have been sold in that condition.
