If you want a big tank go for it. It is alot of work and if your willing to put in the efffort for it you will be fine. Understand that you will have set backs and some failures but don't we have that in everything we do. I know you have the tank and sump but let me share my cost with you on what I just set up. a 265 tank mixed reef Tank 84x30wx24t external overflow drilled for bean animal design and 4 returns 1850.00
custom sump 350.00 AI lights 1900.00 custom steel stand and light rack 775.00 skimmer 500 apex with ph/temp probe display and extra 4 outlet 600 Remote internet connection for apex 100.00 2 mp40s 1000.00 plumbing 150.00 flow accelerators 75.00 Reflo dart gold return pump 400.00 sand 250.00 rock 500 dual reactor 60.00 Heater 100.00 That's 8610.00 I have into my tank in equipment not to mention the livestock cost of salt and making my own water. You can shave that # down but im telling you that you will run into things you did not think of and that will drive up the cost. If you dont mind spending the money Again I say go for it. Sounds like you have dealt with big tanks before so I say go as big as the pocket book allows. That is all new equipment BTW |

you can't put a cost on the tank until you start getting into it. You're going to spend more than 4,000 dollars on your setup that large, I guarantee it. There are so many little things that you just don't think of that add up. Test kits, fish food, coral food, supplements, reactors, media, salt, etc. etc.
Then your big ticket items like your skimmer, powerheads since you're talking vortech and lights. I'd say you're looking at four thousand right there for a good quality skimmer, vortechs, LEDs and a controller. That's all before you even have livestock or coral. I got over 5k invested in my year old 120 gallon so trust me, I know.
