I bought one of these and the fans were incredibly loud. I replaced them with silent fans and now it's great.

Will they really be that silent afterwards, I mean what if I do this and the ringing is still there? How much will it cost?

There is only one type of moving part, and that is the fans. Figure out which one is ringing, and replace it with something like from HERE. Or, send it back to the seller ( on your nickel, I am sure), and they should replace it for you.

I have two of the taotronics, one on my frag tank and one over my fuge. They are both quiet, though you can heart the fan if close by. There is no ring however, maybe you have one with a loose or missing screw. And just for the critics (To flame or not to flame) I have had mine only 3 weeks.

some times on those computer type fans the wires sag a little from being bounced around douring shipping and rub on the fan itself. find out what fan take the cover off and push up the wires.

I run 4 of these over my 180 and LOVE them. The fans are comparable to my 2 ati fixtures i had over the tank previously. I tried a radion and a Ai fixture and def liked the color and spread of the "cheap black boxes" better. I keep anything from mushrooms to acros in my tank with much success. One of my better purchases i have made for my tank. And with the money i saved from selling my ati's and buying tgese i bauggt a new reef octopus skimmer 8-) . can i afford tge "higher end" leds?? Yes def but i just truly liked these better. Only think i wish is that they were dimmable.

A question:
I bought a TaoTronic LED from eBay. It works but the fan blows air out of the side vents, instead of to the top of the unit. I have a wind blowing on my face when I stand next to the tank. Is it normal?
Thanks

Yes, mine blows out of the side too. It pulls air in from the top to cover the heatsink, then shoots it out of the side exhaust.

This is an outlandish presumption! They can be a perfectly fine unit, how would you know anyhow. Do you own one!? LOL

The Taotronics are the same type of units as the units in the "Chinese Led" threads. There are lots of reviews and info in those threads.

Theres lots of chinese led including some of the major high price brands but this is specific for tao so it seem best place to ask.

I would say the ringing is from a cheap driver. I once got a cheap 250w halide ballast from China and it had this almost subsonic ring to it that drove me nuts. I believe that cheap electronics have "noise". The fans would help but I think yoou are confusing the two sounds.

I got the NEW 212W TaoTronics and it's very quite but extremly strong!
I've got it over a 93 Cube raised to acclamate corals...I LOVE this light and so do my corals!!
I hope they take care of it for you. Mine came with a 3 year warrenty.

There is nothing wrong with differences of opinions but "personal" attacks are not necessary and even though they may be amusing to read, not really helpful.

i have not had any problems with the taotronics LED lights on my 300 gallon SPS reef tank. The fans are not any louder than most other products. The sound i hear from mine is mostly just air moving. Which is a good thing. I bet you just got a bad unit as i have 4 of the black units and they work great. Good price, Quality, and are very bright.
