Kentf - for what my advice is worth peppermint shrimp are worth a try, though be warned, they have also been known to enjoy LPS. Do you happen to know what the p04 was in the system before you bought it? For a system that has been neglected (which looking at the amount of aptasia's in it im guessing it has) there is also a risk of the liverock having a certain amount of p04 locked in it. It may well be worth stripping down, getting a shop to hold the fish, corals, and inverts (usually pretty cheap), cooking rock and cycling again with a nice clean sandbed (or maybe even barebottom). Im not sure if this is your first tank or not, but this can be a very rewarding hobby, or a nightmare, and just trying to get the system off to a good start imo is very important. Good luck.

Mark.

My first reef tank, I.ve had several fish only systems in the past. I'll test for p04 and see were we are at, I still need to purchase a good test kit

I would love to see what a horde of pepermint shrimp could do for your tank. Please try the shrimp maybe like 10 atleast? And post back just want to see if that works or not.

Test kits for p04 are worthless. Do yourself a favour and buy a hanna meter. They do a green egg shaped on that is pretty cheap.
