A couple of posts have been edited due to folks trying to avoid our censor for websites that aren't allowed to be mentioned based on their nefarious track records with Reef Central.

Hey Frisco. Message me when you get them. I wouldn't mind seeing them in person!

They are suppose to be dimmable even without the controller I thought. Is this true?

Enclosed with the module is a card that says you can increment all LED intensities by 20%. Otherwise there's nothing that says dimmable.

I was able to contact AI and they said to plug in the power supply first and make sure you have a green light, then plug it into the module. Now it works fine...

Nanoreefbro,

That's great news to hear, that all four of your Vega's are working. Great info to know, just in case the rest of us run into the same problem.

Question for you, how are you going to mount your new Vega's inside your existing hood?

Enjoy your new Vega's,
Randy

Nanoreef, does one light look "bright" enough to light up a 36x36x24 cube?

How did you pick the number of units for your setup? There's very little info on the AI site about recommended installations, etc.

Is each Vega unit roughly equivalent in output to a 250W MH like a Sol unit is?

I have a 165g bowfront: 72" long, 24" tall, 24" at its widest bowfront part, 18" wide on the sides.

Right now I'm running an Aquaspacelight 72" with 3x250 W MH and 4xPC 24W actinics. I've been waiting to pull the trigger to change to LED.

I'd like to have the capability to do SPS but right now it's mostly softies and a Galaxy coral.

I thought I might start with 3x Vega color units then expand to ? 5 in the future for SPS?

Any thoughts?

ReefGeek had the following sizing guidelines. I assume it came from AI:

Quote:
General Sizing Guideline:
- Recommended Tank Length: At ~2" above the top of the tank a single module is capable of covering a tank length of approximately 12", at ~6" above the top of the tank a single module is capable of covering a tank length of approximately 18" and at ~12" above the top of the tank a single module is capable of covering a tank length of approximately 24".
- Recommended Tank Depth: up to 36" with proper placement of corals.
- Recommended Tank Width: up to 30" with proper placement of corals.

I'm tagging along. I saw one in person yesterday at Premium Aquatics but was not over a tank. I have a 30" deep 600 gallon tank so not sure how I'd like the PAR at that depth. Anyone planning on doing some readings with a PAR meter once they get them? What attracts me to the AIs is how modular they are and the easy replacement of a puck in the future.

Does anyone know if the Vega can be controlled by an Apex controller? I know the Sols could using the hardwire cable, but the Vega being wireless, what happens then?

What is the Par on it. And how does it compare to other modular led fixtures

Vega still has the hard wire port.

Agreed on the hard wire. I would not be surprised to see someone building an Android/iPhone app which would connect to the Vega. I'm not happy with the fact that AI did not make the controller for the wireless from the power source. Not sure why you can't unplug the remote but seems something basic that was overlooked.
