Ok so i need to get a few test kits to test these parameters. i have about 11 different types of beginner corals already in my tank. Does coral make that big of a difference in my bioload? Im sure depending on some they do. I have two mocha clowns and two cromis. About 6 nar snails and maybe 4 hermits. i run a 30g sump on a 75 display. Nwb 150 reef octopus, deep sandbed with live rock and chaeto. All together about 120lbs of live in case anybody wanted to know my specifics. How do you control your nutrients better? Ive just been siphoning and doing a 20% change every 2 weeks: is that enough?

That's fine for now. You might also want to use a turkey baster to blow detritus off of your live rock. As I mentioned previously, hair algae (and algae in general) is normal in newer tanks. I've never had a tank that didn't go through an algae phase. Let things play out. Nothing good in this hobby happens fast. Unless the algae starts crowding out other livestock, I'd just remove by hand that which is easily accessible. Hobbyists that tend to have "knee-jerk" reactions the second they notice something out of line don't usually last that long. Slow and steady wins the race. |

I currently do not have test kits for other parameters besides amonia, nitrite, nitrate, and ph. I know i need to get reef kits but im waiting on some extra cash. I do changes 20% every two weeks. Should i be doing them once a week?

Live rock cleaner
Made my own tool out of the siphon for vacuuming the bottom. I installed a battery operated rotating toothbrush inside the vacume tube. While doing a water change it turn on the tooth brush to clean green algae off live rock while the water sucks it out so it dont go all over my tank.
