Anyone have any suggestions on media reactors for carbon and GFO? I want to run a fairly large GFO considering I went with all dry rock. Looking at the MR1 XL

I've been looking at the Vertex UR series of reactors for my next tank (being built). They look to be well made and I have read good reviews.

Considering going with 2 Vertex 2.0 liter reactors and going to run the larger carbon from bulk reef and GFO

In other news I started my tanks cycle 7 days ago with some table shrimp in the refugium. Thinking about adding a couple pieces of live rock in the sump to seed the tank

jus finished setting up a 300 gallon for my father in law and he is transfering everything from his 220 into it.

once this is finished the 220 is mine. I will be building a stand similar to that as the stand that the tank comes with is only 20 inches tall. what were the dimensions of that stand? I would love to do mine just like that but maybe with one center brace instead of the two.

make sure you run the outlet into a very fine filter sock. No matter how much i rinse the BRS carbon my Koran angel always shows some HLLE. As soon as I shut the reactor off he gradually colors back up.

There is an article somewhere that claims there is a direct relation between carbon and HLLE and I have confirmed it to be acurate

Ok so i'm concerned that I do not have enough flow even with two mp40's. I know the tank is already filled but I have the crazy idea of adding a CL to add more flow. I would have 2 intakes on the back left and right feeding the pump and then the returned through either seaswirls on the top of thank or drill holes in the back for the return. Can anyone provide some advice? Is it crazy to do this at this point?

I am not getting a lot of flow through the sump due to the small overflows (which isn't a bad thing, but is not helping in the flow category)

I will run the return from the reactors back into the first section of the sump so they will go through the micron pads again

If I could do it again i would make the stand taller. The dimensions are 74" x 26" x 25". I thought with a 30" tank i wouldn't need a tall stand but i was wrong as it looks a little awkward in the room

Since nobody has slapped you for this idea yet, I'll go ahead and give it to ya!

Lol just kidding. I love my closed loop. But if you wanted to install some intakes for the CL pump, you'd need to drill the glass on the sides. I'm sure you understand this, but just think about it a bit: drilling a tank with water on the inside...whew

So many possibilities for catastrophic failure (scary words, no?)

I've heard of people doing it, but it would be so much easier to just add a couple of Vortechs on the back wall or something. Post in the DIY forum. People will slap you a bit but eventually you'll find somebody who's done it before.
