Melenurus wrasse.
Compeltely decimated my CUC and those it did not kill were contantly hiding. They eventually went on strike and threatened an unsafe work conditions lawsuit, so I had to remove the wrasse (which was surprisingly easy!).

Lawnmower blenny, fine at first and with most fish. Killed three blue spot jawfish, three swordtails, and a diamond spot.

Clarkii clown. Harasses everything like it owns the place, I guess it does.

Six-Line Wrasse; he was dirt cheap (someone was shutting down their reef) and GORGEOUS. Unfortunately, he was also a total jerk. Eventually he was put in fishy jail (sump) where he prospered for many months. Unfortunately for him, the cover on the intake for the skimmer pump came off and he decided that looked like a nice cave to live in.... no more six-line wrasse.
One interesting aspect of this thread is that we're hearing that individual members of various species can have very different levels of aggression... except six-line wrasses, it sounds like they're all dicks. :-D |

My six line has been a model citizen, granted it was only an inch when I bought it and is still the smallest fish in the tank.

Any fish that is "mostly reef safe". That is true until it stops being true and your prized coral is missing polyps and it takes a week of hell to catch it.
Coral/Rock beauty or flame angel come to mind.

Mine is an 8 line wrasse. I added a mandarin and he killed it in less than a minute. I tried catching him with a fish trap to no avail. I think I caught every other fish at least twice. On the plus side after about 9 months he found that vermethid snails taste good.

Coral Banded Shrimp.. His name is Pierre, but he's a mean little cuss.. i'll put my gloved hand in to rearrange or move a coral, or target feed.. he'll go right after my hand and start pinching the crap out of it.

Banana wrasse. Started small, was peaceful for about 6 months, then became a terror. He is now in a fowlr tank by himself, with a tube anemone I have no space for in my other tanks.

Mine would have to be my coral beauty angel but its a love/hate relationship. Luckily, it doesn't even look at my corals but it won't let me add any new fish, I just tried to add a pair of cardinals a few days ago and it quickly killed one and I'm going to pull the other tomorrow. Honestly though, I love the angel and probably won't evict it unless it develops a taste for my softies!

I have a six line that WAS a model citizen until today he decied to take down my pseudochromis fridmani or orchid dottyback. I am now mentally scarred from comming to my tank to see my hermit crab lying on the back of it's shell relaxed holding the almost completley eaten body of the dottyback. I know it was the six line because he was pestering the fish earlier. Can't part with him though becuase he was with me through hurricain sandy and I decided that the fish that survived that storm and week long power outage get a permanent spot in the tank. Lucky fish.

Not a fish but hermit crabs! I couldnt keep any snails for them. Eventually 1 hermit outgrew the others and killed them all off as well. I eventually took him to my lfs.

Domino damsel. Got him with several others from a CL fire sale and I knew putting him in it would be trouble. I'm still annoyed I didn't think to put him in the sump. He really only bothers the chromis, but he's growing fast. Eats like a lawn mower. Actually pretty cool fish, just a big jerk.

My 6-line wrasse! I introduced him to a very small fish load, just a clown and a fire fish. At first all was well and then one day the 6 line started harassing my fire fish every time he left his safety hole, 24/7. I couldn't catch this wrasse to save my life until one day I came home and found him on the carpet. Karma. I feel like my fire fish had something to do with it, or at least I like to think so.

A lizard fish that a friend caught locally. Swallowed everything in the tank in one day except for a porcupine which must have had a heart attack and died. Taught me a lesson,to read up on any fish before I drop it in the DT.

A small 2 inch racoon butterflyfish that a seller claimed it was coral-safe. I dropped it in my main display and the next day it destroyed most of my precious sps corals. I tried every method i could think of to catch this little devil.
-bottle method -net (day and dark times) -traps (caught every fish except the devil!!!) -drained half of my 250 still the little devil squirmed between the corals and hid from me I even promised myself that once i catch him i will fillet him and fry and eat him!!! I resorted to tearing up my live rock display and moving everything out to find the bugger!!! Caught him, fillet him, and fed it to the dog!!!!

Juvi (1.5") Majestic Angel. Thought I could "teach" him to not eat my corals. Lasted about 2 weeks before he ate 14 heads of my prized Purple Passion (100% purple) hammer corals in one day while I was away. I had meticulously grown the 14 heads from a two-headed Divers Den piece.
Never again. |
