Just got a set of extension tubes for my camera. It's a poor mans way of doing macro. I haven't got it all figured out yet but I think I ended up with a few decent shots.

Lights are less than 8" off the water. Whites are less than 20% and blues are about 60%. Any higher and I start to bleach my corals. I really believe that most people that have problems with LEDs have them too intense. It really doesn't look that intense to the naked eye.

Here are a few frags I picked up at the INDMAS fragswap this weekend.
Tyree Red Dragon from Jason Fox Here's a macro of the Red Dragon. Just messing around with my extension tubes. Strawberry Shortcake from Jason Fox Blue Polyp Digi. I couldn't get a good shot of this for some reason but it's a really nice piece. It has very blue polyps as opposed to most of the blue polyp digis I see that have more purple polyps or very pale polyps. Here's an updated FTS. I reworked some of my rock structure on the left side. It doesn't look great in the picture because it's hard to see the depth. It's nice to finally have the frag racks out of the tank for a while too. and a couple of fun fish pics Last edited by chopper320; 05/13/2014 at 10:53 PM. |

Hope everyone had a good father's day! I got a gift cert for Premium Aquatics and got to wake up to this little man telling me "Happy Father's Day!" so mine was great!
My tank is doing pretty well. The green cyano that I have been dealing with for over a year has suddenly completely disappeared. I have been slowly removing my sand bed and I believe that is what helped rid the cyano. I'm sold on bare bottom now. I like the look of sand but it just leaves too many possibilities for undesired nutrients to build up. Unfortunately my chalice(I think it is a Miami Hurricane chalice) is having some issues. It has a lot of new growth but there are a couple of spots around the edges that are receding and exposing its skeleton. There really isn't anything near it to sting it so it has to be something else. I've read low magnesium can cause this in chalices but my mag is right at 1400. Anyone have any suggestions? Also, still haven't treated for red bugs. The teal stag and red planet seem to be the only ones affected by them. My current plan is to start treating with sentinel this weekend. I'm going to do 3 doses a week apart. I haven't decided if I want to try to get my cleaner shrimp and hermits into a separate tank or just chance with them. I'd hate to lose them but I don't have any extra tanks or equipment laying around to keep them in. I'll try to get some new pics up soon. |

Looking good, I have been thinking about grabbing some extension tubes, are you shooting on a tripod?

Yep I use a tripod. The only bad thing is that you have to be really close to your subject to get a good shot. This means that you can only get shots of stuff right up against your glass. For just a few bucks though I think the extension tubes are pretty cool.
