thanks guys! I'm pretty sure decorative clams will outgrow the tank quickly and drain it of calcium, so I'd say no on that. I think I'll get 2 dwarf ceriths for the sand...hopefully that will help out some.
my galaxea is doing fantastic, It's got lots of little babies at its feet and it opens up nice and big. Next time I make it to the other lfs I'll grab a ric or two, they've got em for like $10, which is pretty good I think!

Sounds good! $10 is ideal as far as I know. The brighter ones here can be $25-30

All right!
I picked up: a 2"+ hammer coral 3" silver xenia 1 red hermit crab and xtra shells 1 nerite snail 1 astrea snail And I only spent a total of 30 bucks! not bad? sadly, I haven't seen any signs of pulsing yet from the xenia...I couldn't tell if they were pulsing/nonpulsing type in the store bcause they were under super high flow... They might just be stressed from the move though? that hammer coral looks so nice though! I hope it does well in my tank!

I'm gonna break up the big rock on monday. it's too hard to deal with. It blocks flow, is hard to clean around, and I can't really position itany other way in the tank! hopefully I'll be able to do something with the pieces that looks nice
wish me luck!

fungia plate
Why not try a fungia plate coral. they are very nice looking and simple care. very hardy. Not too much light and low flow makes my orange stay in great color.

WYsiwyg 90$ live aquaria. Arrived in great health. I enjoy that it is compact and a visually stunning coral to watch. Especially when eating it is amazing. It will eily take 8 brine shrimp and move them almost magically across its tentacles towards its awaiting mouth. Its amusing that it has a small bulge after eating so much, like a full belly.

It's about a 3-1/2 inch circular. 1/2" thick or so. Short tentacle. I have accumulated some good variety of corals from different places quickly. Its an addictive habit. Lol.

yeah it is!
So, I smashed that big rock today. I broke it up into 3 pieces with a chisel and hammer. then I did a total rescape. it looks much better now and will be easier to manage. I tossed the smallest piece of the rock so I hope the loss of bacteria it contains will not throw my aquarium into a second cycle. I've still got like 4 pound of lr in there so that should be plenty the new looks is soo much better! more flow, more space for coral, easier viewing...once the "dust" clears I'll get a picture up. thanks!

Awesome! Eager to see the new look. Hope you kept the rubble for fragging off anything in the future. I find gluing to rubble is more realistic than ugly frag plugs. Makes smaller corals look more natural if you cant see the plug, ya know? Not to say i dont have plugs in my tank. All my newer corals under a month old are still on plugs, but i will probably relocate them to some rubble in another month or so.

yep! i kept a few chunks of rubble rock. there are a few pieces in the tank allready too. I prefer to buy loose corals, but if not I just hack the plug down until it fits. or with more sesitive corals I bury the plug in the sand.
I'm trying to get pctures! can't wait to show you and get some fedback!!

Yeah! Updated pics would be sweet. Ive had great success using a bench mount grinder on frag plugs. Very clean reductions. Just lots of dust. Have a buddy vacuum the dust as it grinds off to keep it off your coral, but i dont think it will hurt them much. I got dust on my alveopora but it was fine. Probably because it recedes into a skeleton base when irritated.

thanks for the tips!
today I picked up some more stuff: I got a big rock of red/green palys for only $20!there are at least 32 heads on it, more I think. I was eying a small frag of bright green ones, but I needed some not green corals and this was a WAY better deal it also had a margarita snail, a brittle star, and some tiny snail. I love free hitchhickers! the little snail is extremely tiny, but very active. it's white with pink and green specks on the shell? never seen anything like it, but it sure is nice! I'm thinking baby astrea maybe. I also picked up a feeder guppy who is currently being acclimated to marine. he's very rainbow-ey and beautiful. that xenia is fully open now and actively pulsing. The snail have the side wall chrystal clear, but they don't like ceaning up front I guess... the galaxea doesn't open as fully since I added the hammer. maybe they sense eachother's threat... they are 7 inches apart so I guess their sweepers could sting eachother, but they can't sting the body of the other. I haven't actually seen any sweepers on either of them, but better safe than sorry, right? pictures to come(i hope)! thanks for following!

thanks alex! i was really hoping to get that bigger look! the corals hadn't really opened up yet in that picture so sorry about that. it looks better now. I had just added my new hob filter(which i love)
as you can see, I finally gave in and superglued the xenia to the wall. It's awfully close to the top of the water line, but I used krazy glue(which, accoriding to my research IS aquariumsafe) so I had to do it dry and didn't want to drain out any more water. it looked a lot lower down before it fluffed up too Any reccomendations for the hammer coral? i can't get it to open up. it looks just like it does in the picture pretty much all the time mmm...I can't think of anything else right now, so if you have any question, comments, I'd love to hear it!nothing makes me happier than feedback on my pico . aww...did my xenia picture not load up? i'll have to try again...

It's hard to say from the picture re. the hammer coral. You could try putting it somewhere with different flow/light and see how it reacts...

Ditto on moving the hammer. Trying a different spot may make all the difference.

oh yeah, the other thing is algae. not so much on the rock...my snails/crabs clean the rocks but nothing will even touch the sand to clean. I've had a huge explosion of brown/green algeas all over my nice white sand and it's driving me nutty! I hear marine feeder shrimp(ghost) do a great job cleaning the sand but I can't find much info on how big they are or anything. Also, the onlyplace I see them fs is reefs2go and I'm hesitant to pay 30 or so dollars(shipping included) for a little clear shrimp...? any thoughts on that?they are doing there freebie sale though so maybe I could make it worth it. thoughts?

Ride it out. Figure out the problem before buying a biological solution. Could be any number of thing but i think sometimes riding it out works best. Some people stir around smallsections at a time so there isnt a huge release of unwanteds into the water column. Just my advice, do what you thinks best. I like the new look, pretty sweet lil bitty tank. Lol.

thanks jcarey!
I'm acclimating one of my juvie baloon mollies to sw right now. then I'll ad him. He'll eat up some algae. once he gets bigger I'll just give him to the lfs(my other option is to keep my fry fw and "donate" them as feeders) my favorite thing to do with this tank is watch it in the middle of the night under my red lighting. I get to see ALL of my critters that way! the blue hermit likes to hang out with bitsy(emerald crab) and they wander around together. it's cute. I got to watch miko changing shells as well which is fun I tried putting the hammer coral in another spot today...hopefully it wil imrove!

The little baloon has now been in the tank full marine for one day! I realised after I started that he would probably not do well by himself(he was living with many siblings before) so I am acclimating another(she's almostready to go in too!) to keep eachother company. It's amazing how different fish look under the leds! the lil fishy is orange but in the reef he's a bright pinkish color! I don't see him much...he hides a lot...I think the current is a bit strong for his liking but It wil be fine
I hope they survive and grow! also, I saw a little white worm sticking out of a rock today...It looked kind of like a bristleworm but white? it hid as soon as I came upbto the tank sono pictures, but do you guyshave any ideas what it may have been? thanks!
