Ok thanks!, the pictures answered it for me, basically the images I had seen for the standard come in from the side Bean had a really wide overflow top that ran along the width of the tank. So my question was wheter your overflow was extra wide at the top or just the width of the column and it is just the column width.
Interesting on the 2 polarized filters in a bright room, I will see if I can borrow 2 lenses just in case they cant darken the warehouse. |

Hendrix, I was curious so i tested it today with a tank i knew was tempered and 2 i thought weren't
I took some 3d glasses and rotated my phone around to see if it had the polarizing filter on it and it did. I then took it to the tempered glass tank and rotated it until it was slightly dark, and then slid my phone horizontally along front of tank behind glass (wasnt full). and you can see all of these lines that show up on the glass as you slide the phone. I went and tested it on the other 2 and no matter where i slid it or how i rotated it, there were no lines or difference between being in the tank or out. |

Osi: that is good to know so it sounds like lines are really what to look for rather than any sort of darkening issues. I still haven't had a chance to test the tank out but will definitely report back once I do. rrasco: which of the 2 overflow designs do you like better/think is less noticeable in terms of viewing? I have never seen a coast to coast overflow in person.

Nope not too late, going to drill on Monday, I ran wasn't able to get the filter but in trying it again in the darkened warehouse you could see the alternating lines of light and dark/distortion on the screen on a tempered tank and that did not happen on the bottom of the tank in question so I am going for it. I will report back once it's drilled to see if this worked or not (as an FYI I did not see anything that resemled the tempered fracture lines, again just the distortion/ alernating light lines from the display using the polarized glasses and laptop).

On a side note I have decided on a bean animal set-up with 3 1.5 inch drains, what is the minimum distance between the holes that I can go for? Also would 26 inches of linear overflow work for the box?

Update: Drilled the tank with no issues (took an hour for each hole by the way, 4 battery charges per one!). Set the holes 1 1/2 apart accounting for the extra diameter of the bulkheads and will put together the overflow box of 34 inches of linear flow this week (having dark glass custom cut locally). Don't forget about the return line if doing Bean Animal! I almost made that costly mistake cause you don't see it mentioned on his website, thanks to rrasco for some help with that.
I can say if that if you can clearly see the distortion in a piece of glass you know to be tempered and then have an absence of it (while twisting the filter or sunglasses) on the piece you are going to drill then you should be ok. |

Glad you got the holes drilled. An hour per hole seems SUPER excessive though, FYI. IME 10 minutes if you're drilling 1/2" glass would be plenty.
I'd never be able to stay on task with a drill for an hour
